Hi. So I would love to build my own pc but I can't even wire a plug. I'm a videographer/editor. I just upgraded cameras to Gh4 4k. Absolutely love it but my 2011 iMac can't cope with the 4k in premier pro. I'm looking at buying a custom build like this http://www.custompc.ie/autocad-desktop-pc-solution-level-3-2014-edition-165636-p.asp Can anyone recommend what to upgrade and what to downgrade on this machine?

Defiantly upgrade your GPU to maybe a 780(so you dont have to wait 50 years for a video). Get an unlocked CPU (the one with a K behind) EG i7 4790k and overclock it so you get a better rendering speed too. Of course dont forget a CPU cooler, i would suggest going hyper 212EVO for air cooler or swiftech h220-x if you wanna go liquid route

Learn how to build. It is not that hard.Looks at some videos from Linus and save money. You would be surprised how easy and how much fun it is.

@Matsy1000 I don't think this will actually be as much as an upgrade as you think. Plus it's overpriced - using similar parts (same where possible) it came to under 800€ (with German prices, but they probably wouldn't be that different). http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/KcZcBm

I appreciate you might not want to consider building your own PC (although it's more fun and rewarding than you think), however I think finding a friend who can would still be a better option than buying pre-built.

However, if you really want it pre-built then the other problem with your build is that it's unbalanced - I'm pretty sure you'd really benefit from a stronger GPU, even if it meant going with a slightly lesser processor (definitely would for gaming but I know that's not what you're buying for. For video editing though it would still probably be better).

As most have said already, bad value for money.

Also seriously consider building your own, it really is that easy. Ask a few questions on these forums if your unsure of things. If you do build your own, in a months time you so pleased you did, you will wonder why you didn't do it before. pcpartpicker.com makes it that much easier too.

Nowadays I cant urge enough to family members and friends they should build their own. Seroulsy a week of reseach and a week waiting for parts 2 hours to build and 2 hours to install software/drivers.

Like Nike say - just do it

A local PC shop should be able to build it for you if you get the parts yourself for around 50 euro. Since you're in Ireland, I used UK's pcpartpicker.

Thanks for all your informative replies. So glad I found this forum. I didn't realise it was such bad value. I know prices are lower in the US compared to Europe. I will have to get my brother to help me build one (and video the process), you may see glimpses of my disability :-(. So what are the most important purchases for quick rendering, smooth playback etc. My budget is about €1800 including monitor. Will need to purchase in Europe because of customs.

Should be though a 780 maybe better, if not a 4GB 770 should be good enough (I think)

Cheers. Interesting video here, this guy has some good points. He also reckons the GTX 760 would have a similar performance to the 780? http://www.learningdslrvideo.com/daves-beast-computer-build/

No. The 780 will beat the 760 any day. I picked the GTX770 to be in around the same price as that computer.

Thanks. So the 780 2gb should be a winner? Or should it be 4gb?

780 is 3GB or 6GB, only the 770 and 760 come as 2 or 4GB

How much do you want left of the 1600 EURO for a monitor? Tell me exactly how much you want to spend on the machine itself (just the PC, not a display or any peripherals)  and I will make a European PCPartpicker build for you tailored to that budget.

If you tell me which country could help also, would ordering from the United Kingdom work?

Thanks lads. Askew, my budget is around 1200 British pounds for everything except monitor. And yes the UK. I don't really need an optical drive as I have an external already. If you feel I should push my budget up a bit to maximise performance please let me know. Great advice on this forum.

Tbh the Msi Gaming Twin Frozr 780 6GB OC is probably your best choice as I don't think the Titan Black is a viable option

Here is a system that is far superior the one you had originally.

You have a quad core i7 with hyperthreading, the latest one which is unlocked and can be overclocked, an aftermarket cooler for it which is cheap but effective.

16GB of RAM that only occupies half of the RAM slots, so you could add up to another 16GB later on if you find yourself using all of the 16GB

6TB of storage for video files and a fast 256GB SSD for your OS and applications.

Case is the one I have, it's a sleek black silence optimised case without a window or anything flashy but it's lined with sound deadening material and has a nice metal door that also is lined.

You have a capable GTX 780 video card with plenty of CUDA cores to support acceleration in your Adobe apps.

Power supply unit is high quality with a 10 year warranty.

Let me know if you want to change something, it would be possible to move up to a 6 core 2011 socket platform which would improve performance, but will cost more, I don't really know much about your workflow or how much rendering time is needed to be chewed through and whether that would be a cost effective benefit.
