Games are ignoring GPU forced vsync...

Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

If you didn't wanna fiddle too much, an FPS limiter should suffice.

MSI Afterburner options - OSD TAB - Click More at the bottom to bring up the below program.

I don't know why I'm having this problem :( I want to turn vsync on with some games because they draw too many frames and it really makes my GPU hot. But one locks vsync to 30fps instead of 60 and the other game doesn't have vsync at all... So I went into CCC to force vsync by setting wait for vertical refresh to always on. But the games ignore it. It happens with other games I try too, not just these ones.

I'm running the latest AMD beta drivers (which I just reinstalled) and have an R9 290. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it!

How hot are we talking?

Well one of the games, Dead Space 3, can get the GPU to 93-94C... The other game is Sims 3 and that can get to 90C. When I turn Vsync on for DS3 the temps drop by 30 degrees... But obviously it's capped at 30, not 60.

It's OK to run it that hot.

Look into Dynamic Vsync via Radeon Pro

Dynamic: Dynamic V-sync Control or DVC feature dynamically turns display vertical synchronization on or off based on sustained frame rate vs. display’s refresh rate. When DVC is on, RadeonPro monitors frame rate in real time and when it is equal or greater than display’s refresh rate (e.g. 60 Hz), v-sync is kept on to avoid tearing and improve gaming smoothness, whereas when sustained frame rate is below display’s refresh rate, v-sync is turned off to reduce stuttering. Keep in mind some tearing can be visible while v-sync is off. - See more at: http://www.radeonpro.info/manual/contents/the-tweaks-tab#sthash.mtJ75DMs.dpuf

Or, Impose an FPS lmit to say.. 65-70fps via MSI Afterburners RTSS program or Various other GPU tweak programs.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Hm, I'm trying to find something to counter your response... But like you said the card is designed to do that. That kind of temperature is just too uncomfortable for me to play with constantly though, both in terms of electronics and room temp.

Thanks for the advice :) I'll see what I can do.

If you didn't wanna fiddle too much, an FPS limiter should suffice.

Thank you! It might not have solved the issue with Catalyst Control Centre but at least I got what I wanted done :) My GPU is now at 73C playing Dead Space instead of 94C, at a steady 75fps  :)
