So I want to do a couple registry tweaks to remove things like Libraries and Network from my folder pane like I use too in Windows 7.  This time around however I keep getting "Access Denied" when I try to take permission of the registry keys I need to change.  So I tried to follow a bunch of guides with basically all the same steps in order for me to first get ownership of my whole C:drive and then give myself permission and whatnot.  But I keep getting the same error when I try to do this.  Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

You can't remove it. Its tightly integrated with Windows, as Modern UI apps can depend on library existence.

You can remove the Libraries items on the navigation pane, by right-clicking on each item, and select: Don't show in navigation pane. But, "Libraries" stays there.

Same for network.

The only thing you can remove is 'Homegroup" by stopping and disabling both homegroup services. And for Favorites, Click on View tab > Navigation Pane > click on Show Favorites, to uncheck that menu item.

I didn't say remove it from Windows, I said remove it from the folder pane.

Let me clarify.

Launch regedit.

Find the following location in the registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}\ShellFolder

Right click and select 'Permissions' Change owner to administrators group. Change permissions for administrators group. Grant Full Control. I get an error saying:

unable to save permission, access denied

I can't change the permissions.

Yup. Like I said. I haven't started to look into developing Modern UI apps, but I beleive what you are trying to do will break my program if it tried to access the libraries. Also, it might break desktop programs that uses libraries, like the Zune desktop music player.

Again, it's not going to remove the libraries feature.  It will only remove the registry key that tells windows to put a link for it into the folder pane.

That was the original one I was looking at, and it gives the same steps they all do.  The problem isn't that I don't know how to do it.  The problem is that I'm following the steps, but there's something else in the way that's keeping me from getting the correct result.  No matter which guide I use, I still can't get past the part where I get "Unable to save permission, access denied"
