I'm curious to see if my specs might bottleneck switching out my gt 640 with an R9 270. Also, what is the best way to test to make sure my GT 640 isn't already being bottlenecked?

 

Processor - Intel i5-760 Quad Core 2.8 GHz

Mobo - MSI P55M GD45 mATX

RAM - 8 GB 1600 MHz(clocked down to 1333 MHz because I don't overclock) Corsair XMS3

Graphics Card - EVGA GeForce 640 2 GB

Power Supply - Ultra V-Series 500W ATX Switching PSU

HDD - WD Caviar Blue 500 GB, WD Black 1 TB

Optical Drive -  Asus DRW-24B3ST 24X DVD±R/12X DVD±R(DL)/8X DVD+RW/6X DVD-RW/16X DVD-ROM/12X DVDRAM/ 48X CD-R/32X CD-RW/48X CD-ROM

Case - Ultra ULT31584 Wizard ATX Mid-Tower PC Case

Fans - Stock CPU fan, Stock PSU fan, One 120mm on the back

Keyboard - Razer Blackwidow Ultimate

Mouse - 2013 Razer Deathstalker

Monitor - Acer G215h

I don't really think there will be a bottleneck, I'm pretty sure you are fine

I have a 920 i believe it is in a computer with a 270 and i mean sure theres probably a bottle neck but , it runs most games fine at medish

That cpu is still fine, its something like todays i3

it will bottleneck a 270 in some games. will run fine most games but mmo's.

huh no, not at the 2.8ghz mark...this architecture as higher ipc but a 4ghz+ fx is still much faster.

i dont know about overclocked fx. i go check benchmarks brb.

Still, my CPU is like 3.5 years old...so I don't expect it to compare to an FX. :)

true, if you could clock it to around 3.5ghz it would be a good match for an fx6300 though...its still decent.

lets just say its a good match for a 270, you could even go with a 280 as you would still get the most out of it in most games.
