Hello Good sirs!

I am new in this type of thing, but I am confused on which I should be planning my build be.

I am doing CAD work, 3ds max modeling, gaming and other stuff.

Now the question is....

Is this kind of work already fit for a mainstream 4790K?

Or is it time I save up more for a more friendly 6 core like the 5820K?

If you're doing professional CAD and Modeling, if you need multiple GPUs, wait a couple months for prices to fall (and save some money too because that won't make up for everything) and get a 5820k. The extra PCIe lanes make expansion much easier. Most CAD and modeling programs don't really take advantage of Intel's iGPU yet. Can someone here provide evidence to the contrary?

Buy someones 3930k/4930k, as everyone is moving to 2011-3, and you get much better prices on RAM/mobo

Or do this^

The 4790k is "main-stream" compared to the 5820k, which is enthousiasts. But don't forget that the 4790k was sort of the top-of-the-line processor from Intel, before the new releases. So the 4790K should run everything perfectly fine for the coming years. The 5820K will do certain things faster, mainly those that require multiple cores. Also, the 5820K will last longer before you may feel the need to replace it, and has some other advantages too.

I think it comes down to: do you need this build asap? If so get the 4790K, and you'll be for a while.

If you don't need it asap, save up.

I think I might do some rendering most of the time, but my budget is killing me HAHA

If your budget is killing you then I suggest finding people selling their old 38/39 or 48/49 platforms. You'll get great value for your dollar.
