Hello,

I want to upgrade my Imac 5,2 processor and was wondering what socket type it was.  I can't find it anywhere.  All i can get is that it is a core 2 duo clocked @ 1.83 ghz.

Thanks

I can help with programming and hardware.

I found this, might not be correct.

http://ark.intel.com/products/27254/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T5600-2M-Cache-1_83-GHz-667-MHz-FSB

Sockets Supported PBGA479, PPGA478

I don't think it's possible?

It might be..maybe..

Rip it all out and put a hackintosh in that beautiful alu case.

Have fun getting a custom build in an iMac.

Also, its not really worthwhile.

This is pretty much it.

You may be able to do it, but like a laptop it might not be a great idea. First you would be limited to the old socket which is probably a "mobile" socket. Also the cooling is most likely designed for that CPU so upgrading could badly affect the temps.

You would need to open it to check if it's a desktop socket, mobile socket or soldered down. It's your choice, but it may be extremely difficult/impossible.

"PSU brands are meaningless, look up the OEM."
