So I have been waiting for the R9 285 to be released so I can see what prices drop and buy a new GPU

However, I noticed this golden deal while I was scrolling around and I was wondering if anyone else has bought a used part and would like to give us some insight

MSI R9 280X $209.99 USD with free shipping

Are they trust worthy? I am a guy who doesn't like buying used, but this is such a good deal... I am thinking about it

used R9 AMD cards can be risky. they may have been used as a mining card which would give it a pretty short lifespan.

although if it is "re-certified" it is probably fine

Like the only "used" part I have bought was my friend's GPU for this PC that was only built a little before summer.

He sold me his Sapphire HD 6850 for 50 dollars which was too good to pass up because I was short on cash and it was from someone I knew.

How short? I don't expect to keep this for too long. Maybe 3 years or so until another upgrade right?

I'd go for something new if you want it to last 3 years.

Don't even worry about it. This has been gone over by MSI...they make the cards, I'm sure they know how to refresh them.

The only time I'd be iffy is if you were looking at a reconditioned card from a third party.

It's manufacturer refurbished. It'll be fine.

I was looking to wait until tomorrow to see if the R9 280 drops in price because that was the card I was going for. An MSI R9 280 was 234.99 until a few hours ago when Amazon ran out and now its 300 dollars. Isn't that a steal for an R9 280X from MSI?

I am looking on Google to see others' experiences with refurbished and so far its not TOO risky...

It won't drop immediately. Unfortunately they'll likely just hold out until they sell off most of the stock. Most places don't have tons of cards in their warehouses, so it's not a huge rush to sell them.

Do you have an eBay account? The NCIX Outlet on there constantly has 280x cards for around $240. New, of course.

No I don't; I thought eBay as sketchy compared to Amazon and Newegg, but I have never used eBay before. I hear NCIX is pretty reliable too...
