How good is this custom loop? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/vV46NG The other parts are there for reference. Don't say not to get a custom loop, I know its not as good for the price, but I love the looks. Are there any area where I can improve noise, cost, looks, or performance without hurting another area? (just incase you were wondering, yes, this is based off red mist and skunkworks)

You don't want Air Series fans, you want Static Pressure optimized fans. with a 3.0 mm/H20 rating or higher.

AF Fans are good for case fans, but static pressure is the most important metric when using fans against a radiator.

I believe a single D5 pump should be enough, unless you're going for redundancy. Following that, a single reservoir is enough, unless you're going for looks in which case I have nothing more to say

Oh and make sure you buy windforce waterblocks, not the reference waterblocks you have listed

I thought they would be just as good since the rad has a low fpi

Nope, you want static pressure.

its to have two separate loops (one with clear blue fluid, and with solid blue fluid) i thought it looked really nice in red mist (does the twin frozer have a reference pcb? its cheap as  well)

I'm not sure about the MSI one, but the EVGA cards have reference PCBs, except the classifieds.

MSI 780ti gaming with twin frozr does have a reference pcb, if you change your mind about gpus, you can use this website to check for compatible waterblocks http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/

Are you really going to build this?

yes and no, i will build something based off this in 3.5 years, but its fun to do this, and gradually change parts (like the 5820k ram and mobo), so i was hoping that my starting point was good.

I don't care that much about price, just about looks, performance, and silence. I think the af/sp 120/140 fans look great.

It's fun, sure, we've all made our dream builds on PCpartpicker and *sighed* at the depressing fact that it might not become a reality anytime soon. Maybe hold off till then, I don't want you to take this the wrong way but 3.5 years is a lot of time in the PC world. This is a bit of a waste of time.

I know most, if not all the components in this pc will change, but this is one of the most fun things I can do (the others are anime, games, and other computer things). Is it a waste of time? yes. Would it be a waste of time to do what i would to instead? also yes.

Yea, they definitely have an appealing, recognizable, and iconic look to them.  I have always kind of scoffed at the price, but after continually finding components to upgrade inside my build, I think I will end up buying some just for the looks, even though I already have something just as good for performance.

One thing I want to throw out there because it sounds like you are not resolute in your decision to do this.(based on your yes and no comment)  You could completely water cool your CPU + GPU for Under $200 (if you live in the U.S.) and still get very good performance and silence.  Not on the same level as a custom loop, but very very good considering the price tag.

First, you buy a Cooler Master Seidon 240M for $60 after MIR from Newegg.com for your CPU.  This is an incredible AIO for the price.  You can check out my Review With Statistics if you want some idea of the performance.

Second you buy a NZXT G10($25) + 120mm AIO($50-$80) + Heat Sinks, Adapters, Thermal Tape($15) for your GPU.  This is another fantastic deal considering the performance you get out of it.

would is be around $1000 less? yes

would it perform pretty close to the same? also yes

would it look like the type of build that would win a competition? no

would the one i suggested win the competition? it probably would

so is this build practical? no, but I can reuse many of the parts for a decade so the price gap is as big as it looks like, and the build will look like a piece of art. This also has much better upgradability, i can add another radiator for only around $150 more, and it will perform even better. have you seen project red mist? if not, here it is:

This will look very similar, but it will have blue, not red, and the white fluid would be solid blue.

I haven't seen Red Mist before, but I have seen Skunkworks.  They are beautiful machines that are works of art.  I wasn't sure of your intended purpose, I meerly wanted to provide you with an alternative because you sounded wishy/washy about the whole thing.  Now that I know your intention is to create A Masterpiece, A masterpiece!(Tenacious D voice) we can better help you.  As someone else said, 3 and a half years is a long long time, heck 1 year is too long of a time to really start planning anything because the landscape of this industry changes so fast.
