Hi guys I am planning to get an SSD tomorrow either a Crucial MX100 or a Samsung 840 EVO but now i have one problems . I want to clone ONLY MY OS from the HDD to the SSD and keep my other files all at the HDD so the SSD is purely for OS . But how do i clone ONLY the OS from the HDD to the SSD? I see some data migration software like ones from Samsung but they require you to migrate ALL the data from the HDD to the SSD or shrink the size of the HDD so that the data can fit into the SSD but i only want the OS in the SSD so how do I Clone ONLY THE OS ? And guys if you were to choose will you pick the Crucial MX100 or the Samsung 840 EVO? Thanks guys .

You can't just clone the os, you either clone it all or nothing. Clone everything then delete the junk you don't want from the new drive. The only way you can clone just the os is if you had made a partition just for the os. Let the os install on that partition and all your other files on the other partition. Alternatively you can just install windows on the new drive and use the same code back (unless you bought an oem copy, those sometimes work) If you have an oem copy and it doesn't verify you can try calling microsoft and they MIGHT activate it anyways. Just depends on who you talk to, but those are about your only options.

Don't clone drives to an SSD. Never do that. It severely reduces the SSDs performance.

After you have successfully booted onto SSD turn off then plug hdd back in, THEN boot if it boots the SSD then and only then, you can delete the system reserved partition on the HDD, and WINDOWS folder program files and program files x86, their are also hidden folders but you can ignore they don't to much space.

i thought programs files x86 and program files contain  the files for my programme like origin to run ? what will happen if i delete them?

They are on your old drive anyway you can't use them..i lied you can use some of them, you need to reinstall programs, most are registry bound so it won't work on another "system"

ohh i think i will reinstall windows !

That is the best way to do it :)

After installing windows on the SSD, you can just plug in your HDD and delete the OS, so all your files will still be on the HDD. Then you can just drag and drop what you want to go on the SSD from windows explorer :)
