They perform the same. 280x is usually chaper, but if they both are the same price where you live then definitely get the 770.

It will run cooler, make less noise, and overclock more.

280x, it is kept perfectly cool and quiet by MSI or Sapphire's cooling solutions. That AMD cards run hot is a fallacy which it is forced to burden due to a poor performing reference cooler on the 290. If you could put that same cooler on an Nvidia card you'd hear no ends as to how hot the 780 ran.

The 280x also comes with 3gb of Vram which is only a good thing as games are utilising more vram than ever before, which potentially bottlenecks the 770, especially going forward.

You could wait for further news about the R9 285X before you make a decision. It is said to come out some time after R9 280 which is September 2, 2014.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."
