Anyone playing this game?  I am looking at some videos and it looks incredible.  I finally got accepted into the 4th BETA, I am downloading it now, looking to maybe link up with someone or get some good starting advice.

It looks fantasmagoric. I'll be playing it when it comes out and paying for the $100 pack, but I'm too busy with school work to play right now. I played a bit in the 2nd and 3rd beta as a demonologist and a hex warden.

I played it. This is my experience before I say what I'm going to say: I've played WoW for 4+ years doing a lot of PvP arenas and raiding, I've played SWTOR for a few months, ESO for about the time it's been out.

 

 

So now that that's out of the way, I absolutely did not like Archeage. Right off the bat after making my character and getting into the game, the user interface was SOOOOOOOOOOOO unattractive. You can 100% tell it's made by Korean developers who cater to people who love grind and don't care about visual appeal. For example, your mini-map is defaulted to take up about a third of your screen real estate.

 

When you play it you'll see what I mean when I say it's a blatant grind game.

 

The game is supposedly made on CryEngine 3, but I'm not seeing any engine features that I would recognize, like the badass motion blur CryEngine has which is a personal favorite, and the lighting is not that great. Textures were okay for an MMO, but I was expecting more.

 

I played it for about 30 minutes or so and stopped. I know it's a beta test and stuff and you're not supposed to judge the game immediately, but I don't think all of my complaints about it will be fixed by launch - like there's absolutely no way they'll be able to change it even if the studio is willing to.

The majority of my MMO experience comes from playing Everquest 1 and 2.  Those games were a challenging grind, so I am really looking forward to a return to that.  Ever since WoW came out, it got so easy.  I tried out ESO, what a flop, that game had so much potential but it was just a colossal F-up.

 

Just because something has a default setting, doesn't mean it cannot be changed.. thats a ticky tacky complaint.

 

From the videos I have seen, I love the animations and I do personally prefer the tab targeting way of fighting, and chaining together abilities to find the best combos.  I am loving the classes and skills.  The items look great too.  Raiding and PvP looks great, Im watching a mega battle as I type this.

 

The thing that excites me the most is a return to the gritty grind of a challenging MMO.  If you want to succeed, you have to put in the time. period.  I also really like the mechanics of the PvE that I have seen so far, the challening "How do I defeat this epic boss" kind of stuff where you have to use your wits to win and its not a simple tank and spank.

Oh man, I'm in trouble.  I am really liking this game and I'm only level 3.  It has that MMO vibe that I have so been missing since the days of Everquest.

 

I usually played Warrior/Tanky types in the past, so I am going to try something new.  I am going for a mage-DPS type.  I am Nuian on the Salphira server, my name is "Faceman"

My IGN is Mysticbolt. I'm also a Nuian and a mage :3 Basically, the main plot is terrible with very long cut scenes but the rest of the game is enjoyable, if you play in a party that is.

I played the game tonight as it is in open beta and I enjoyed it enough to play it at times as a free to play game but as for me throwing any money at it I don't expect to do that any time soon.  I would rather pay for WOW when the new expansion comes out.

Fair enough. It's better than most MMO's I've played, but it's still lacking something. I wouldn't throw money at it either It's fun but not enough fun to warrant cash being spent on it.

Stay clear of this game if you play MMO's for PvE content.  I'm a PvE guy myself and once you hit level 30, it becomes a joke to level because you're just going to get ganked by people with stealth and run away from gankers with stealth.  I wouldn't be so mad if the PvP weren't so bursty and favoring of ranged, stealth characters.  And for a game that is so focused on combat, it just feels so stale.  Tab-targeting needs to go, like now.  This is a world where games like TERA and Neverwinter exist.  TERA began development in 2007, 200-freakin-7.  No excuse for a tab-target MMO in 2014, no excuse at all.
