Should i cfx?

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

If you can get a good price on a 7870 GHz or 270X then hell yes crossfire. Pretty much all new games are nicely optimized nowadays, and two of these beasts in crossfire provides some crazy performance. Just make sure you have the PSU to power them both.

Soooo, im not sure what to do. I have a 7870ghz sapphire i bought and its a beast of a card, it OC's to about stock performance of 7950 (Hell Ya!) and im OK with it. As more demanding games come out in the future i feel like i will be unprepared. It already barely holds a constant 60 fps. (games like bf4).  Iv'e also heard TONS of nighmares about lag, stuttering and heat issues wiht CFX, another thing that scares me.

I could just blow another $350 on a r9 290, but is it worth it? Im only gaming on 1 1080p monitor. I can just pick up a 270x for a little under 200 or a used 7870 for around a 100.

Or yet another option, just wait on upgrading for next gen of cards and stick it out? Eventually i want to move onto 1440p or 4k, so this seems liek a good option too.

Post your thoughts down below.

PS. I have money for upgrades so price dosent matter.

CFX?

Also I would suggest waiting for the GTX 800 line to come out then get one of the higher up cards if you plan to move up to 1440p or 4K, according to rumors they will be cheap and powerful.

If you're only gaming on one with both connected then expect a ~5 FPS drop or so, nothing major. Likely an un-noticeable difference with with 2x 7870 GHz

Rumors are rumors. I'd look into getting a sapphire 290 now, and a second later. I mean, look at that graph!

Ok thanks for the input, i know the 290's are crazy cheap right now, but i think cfx would be a cool "quick fix" and then upgrade to new cards. this could be an option too.

Two 7870 GHz will whoop one 290.

And two 290's will stomp that 7870.. What are you getting at here?

If you plan to upgrade then you're best off saving that cash.

But another 7870 for 100-120 dollars will last me a while, at least a year, plus im only playing on 1 60 hz monitor.

From experience with my own Crossfire set-up, I would just warn you to be a bit careful. While most titles work fine with crossfire, there are still some problems. Saints Row 4 and Watch Dogs simply do not work with crossfire configuration, neither does NFS Shift 2.

You may not be interested in these titles, but the point is that even with high profile AAA games, there are still developers that do not take crossfire into consideration.

OP is deciding between one two 290 or two 7870's. Not two 290s vs two 7870s.

I'm well aware of what he's asking, I'm just pointing out facts. That 7870 only has 2gbs of vram and depending on what types of games he's playing; ie, watch dogs, he's going to run into some issues.

That's not counting future titles.
