Should i cfx?

If you can get a good price on a 7870 GHz or 270X then hell yes crossfire. Pretty much all new games are nicely optimized nowadays, and two of these beasts in crossfire provides some crazy performance. Just make sure you have the PSU to power them both.

Two 7870 GHz will whoop one 290.

Doesn't really 'whoop', but the 7870's are limited in VRAM, also getting a 290 allows for another 290 in the future.

PC: Corsair C70 Arctic, FX 9370, Corsair H80i, Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3, Corsair Vengence 16gb, Palit JetStream GTX 970, OCZ Vertex 4 128gb and Western Digital Blue 1Tb + 500gb, Antec Gamer 520w

Peripherals: Logitech G19 and SteelSeries Sensei RAW

Toshiba L50-A: i7 4700mq, 8gb, 1TB HDD, GT 740M 2gb

OP is only gaming on one 1080p monitor so 2GB is adequate, and he isn't planning to keep the PC for long enough that he'll need a second 290, as stated on the first page.

Tbh 1080p still utilises more then 2gb of vram, when you have more than 2gb games do dip into it, i noticed this on my mates 7970 CF set up.

True, but it doesn't really justify spending twice as much to get, at best, the same performance.

But you aren't getting the same performance you are getting better? The 290 is going to outlast the 7870's.

I do realise how much of beast they are I have my 7850 clocked to one and its great, but I would drop it for a 290/280x/7970 in a heart beat before going CF

Yes a 290 will outlast two 7870's but again it will cost more

Sell the 7870, but either way its solid build still.

The thing is that since you already have a 7870 GHz, get another 7870 Ghz or 270X for now and see what comes in the future that provides a good single-card upgrade opportunity. Who knows that may happen rather then getting one now. This might be a generation or two after Hawaii/Maxwell

If you are eventually moving to 1440p, buy an R9 290 now.  And a 2nd when you do make the switch.
