WD Black

Go to solution Solved by R2D2_WD,

Love the dual WD Black.

Is it installed in the same way as a normal ssd and hdd or different?

And how is the Performance of it?

Yes, it can be connected like any other drive, with SATA cable. Depending on the desktop case, you may need to get a 2.5'' to 3.5''  mounting adapter so the drive can be physically secured. After connecting the drive, you will be able to see only the SSD part. After that you can unlock the HDD part. I leave you a video about the installation and some numbers about drive performance.

Hope I helped

I would always recommed an SSD for your OS and frequently used programs (like browsers) and a HDD for mass storage, but if you're on a budget then hybrid drives are a good solution. I have a Seagate hybrid drive and I can really tell the difference, much more responsive.

What's your budget? You could be here all day suggesting different combos that are all valid. For a C: drive I would recommend a 256 gb ssd. It's large enough that you don't have to be hyper vigilant on what's getting loaded on there. A nice, fast 2 tb hdd is a sweetspot right now. After that? More is always nice if you can afford it.

I think between a WD and a Seagate Barracuda as HDD.

For the SSD i go whit a Samsung Evo 840.

(Problem is WD has there where i wanna buy not a 1TB version only 500GB and 4TB. The 4TB is too expensive and i don't wanna buy four 500GB HDDs)

So is the 4TB version worth it?

I'm surprised that the 2 tb isn't available. Are you sure it isn't just an ordering situation? There's been mentions on here that there are more problems with the larger drives but I've never read anything about that. Maybe somebody could post good info on that?

I can't see any 1-3TB versions.

Yeah which sounds weird as that is the most popular sizes. That's why I figure it's either special order because they can't keep them in stock or it's a surplus type thing and the odd sizes are what's available.

Hi,

SSD + HDD is a great solution and is widely used. I would go with a 120GB SSD drive for the OS and a WD Black for my games, software and storage. This way I could get good loading times for Windows and high overall performance for my games + 5 years warranty for my HDD. I leave you more information about WD Black and the different WD drives. You can easily go with WD Black Dual drive, which has a 120 GB SSD part and a 1 TB HDD part, all in one 2.5'' drive. Think about this option too. You may need a mounting adapter to put it in a 3.5'' HDD slot.
Check the distributors list for your country to get more buying options.

The WD Black2 drive is a laptop solution. It's not meant for desktop applications. Going with a 256gb ssd and a 2 tb Black would be ideal.

You are totally right, the Black Dual drive is meant for laptops, but works great on desktops too. I mentioned it as a possible option. SSD + WD Black is a solid choice.
