I prefer Nvidia over AMD so I'd go with the 750 ti.

(I dislike loads of heat being pumped out into my room, and I dislike lots of noise.)

Get a 270 NON X cheaper and just as good >.< look @ linus's review it's better than their 270x just from a little OC

Some 750Tis(FTW by EVGA forexample is nearly as loud as 290 reference) are louder than even high end AMD cards and AMD cards compared to Nvidia Cards with the same cooler are actually cooler

290x and 780 same cooler @ load 10 degrees difference with the 290x closer to the 750TI and 290x 1 degree off from a 750ti @ idle.... >.< the thing wrong with AMD cards is the reference cooler

get the 270x its a much more capable gpu, forget the heat and noise and powerconsumption arguments this is a non issue you wont even notice the difference it just plain perform better!

i mean just look how bad the 750ti is compared to the 270x its a no brainer!

The 270X is more powerful however the 750Ti will run cooler, quiter and has better software support, compatibility and optimization. If I were you I would go for a GTX760 for the extra couple bucks but if that's not an option they are both good options with there own benefits.

As everyone else said, the 270x is definitely the better choice. If your budget is super tight, you can get the 270 non-x and OC it like I did. It only runs hot on super demanding games, and even then (depending on cooler) isn't that loud (especially in a case ... i don't have a case). I would say go the 270 non-x either way actually since its only difference from the 270x is clockspeed. See sig for potential OCing results.

Please, this applies to reference cooler, especially those on the 290 series. The lower series use non-reference coolers that do a good job cooling the GPU and aren't loud even when compared to your beloved nVidia cards. Or, do you think nVidia has a patent for cool and quiet?

fan boy? just wondering

There're bound to be a few in every forum I go to.....be them AMD/Intel/nVidia.

To OP, a more cost effective card would be the R9 270 since it beats an R7 265 which, in turn, beats the GTX750 Ti. If budget allows, the a GTX760 or R9 280 and higher card would be even better!
