So I have OEM windows, so if I get a new motherboard, will I need to re-buy windows?

There is away around that. You can do a regedit hack.

But most times they usually work without a problem. What Windows are we talking about?

Eh, it's not entirely Microsoft's fault for that. It's because of desktop and laptop manufacturers to tie the key to the system.

They should make it more clear that OEM is different than full

Nevermind. I just took a look in my tech drawers for the disc. What I had was a update Version and not a OEM. Sorry about that.

It's usually common knowledge (at least becoming to be) that OEM means it's tied to the motherboard.

Hmm, well I was a non techie.

Technically, there is no Windows 8.1 Home. Just 8.1, 8,1 Pro, and 8.1 Media Center Edition. ;)

Should, but I can't

Huh. I used the same Windows 7 Home Premium OEM key 3 times (on the same basic set of hardware though).

I have a couple OEM win 7 copies, I've reinstalled them tons of times.  Not sure if 8.1 is the same but when activating 7, it would say can't activate then give a number to call.  You call the number and it walks you through activating it on your new install.
