I'd suggest printing a template and using a file to file down the plastic until it fits. Or get a Sim card cutter which saves you the hassle and allows you to use the cut out as an adapter if you have an older phone lying around that you use from time to time.

I have done this plenty of times and not had any problems, just make sure you don't mess up.

Its safe and pretty easy to do, but make sure you print out a cutting template. Also you can always take the sim to your phone providers store and they will give you a smaller sim for free.
