280x rapes the 660. Look at benchmarks and decide for yourself if its worth the money.

Are you getting bad performance? Im thinking 660 cant be terrible on 1080p at 60hz.

If your happy with the performance you have right now then don't upgrade, if your not happy then upgrade.

If possible sell your 660 and see if you can get a 290

cause it will last a little longer and you can crossfire down the road

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

I can recommend the 280x. Playing on 1080p nothing comes close to stressing it except heavily modded skyrim.

Myself i upgraded from a 560 so it was damn worth it, dont know for you though. If youre getting good frames you might want to wait a few months. See if new stuff comes out, maybe price drops too.

There is a big difference, however, NVIDIA will be releasing their 800 series soon, I would wait and see what NVIDIA has to offer.

But my MOBO  (even tho it supports crossfire) only has 1 PCI 16bit slot... T.T so a 290 is a better choice?

Just keep the 660 and wait for the 8xx series, it's a waste of money to do it now. As you said, the 660 runs fine for 1080p. :)

It all depends on how much you want to spend. I think the 280x is a bit better in performance to dollar ratio, however if you got money to burn go for the 290.

edit: obviously the most cost effective thing to do would be to stick with the 660 for a bit longer, if the performance doesnt bother you too much.

660 is decent enough for 1080p ( depending on the model 2gb/3gb etc) , i wanted more GPU power so i went Sli , it had a lot of problems to begin with with games like BF4 but that was mainly due to the game it self , saying that 660 sli is a good little powerhouse , maxes out BF4 at a Solid 60fps with 2x MSAA , saying that i would advise against Sli anyway , took me a week to get bf4 to run properly lol , i would sell the 660 and get the 280x if i were in your situation :)

hope i helped a bit :D

if you want to max out BF4 at 4xMSAA all ultra then yes go for it...the 280X is a nice upgrade to the 660, here:

If you could pile up some more $$ to afford the R9 290 (which retail online for 349$ on some sites in the US ATM)

it would be much better though:

So a 280x is actually quite a good GPU already right (for 1080p that is). Is it justifiable for 290 on a 1080p screen tho?

IMHO yes it is if you like playing games maxed out with 4xMSAA or better settings, yes. Also it will play games on max details for a much longer period of time making your investment the more worthy.

Here you can see the R9 290 scores quite a bit better than the 280X, that justify the price difference and even more:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1041?vs=1068

For example as you can see the 290 can play metro last light at 1080P on very high settings with a comfortable 68FPS average where the 280X push only 51FPS...
