Ok so in my new build I have a 4690k that I've returned to stock overclocking settings in an attempt to reduce temperatures. It's cooled by a Corsair H100i and I've redone the thermal compound application three times now in attempts to lower temperatures. At idle all cores run about 40C which I know isn't terrible but also not desirable. The problem is when I run prime 95 in small FFT, the temperatures instantly rise to 95-100C on all cores. On blend the temperatures are at 85C. The H100i fans are connected to mobo fan headers 2 and 4 in pwm mode and I believe all the pump connections to be correct. Please Help =(

AFAIK, there are some issues with using Prime 95.

More on that below.

Are you sure your h100 is running I have heard of people that have killed their CPU because they thought their cooler was working but it wasn't

+1

This is why I recommend the Noctua U14S to people who want a CLC like H80 or H100. More possible issues with a CLC and its harder to find out what's wrong.

Just swapped out the H100i for a brand new unit. This yielded no change in the temperatures. It must be the chip, man that sucks; especially since I'm beyond my 30 days of newegg returns.

Are you sure you're installing the h100i correctly? You want to crank it down in a crisscross pattern. I'd return it and get a Noctua NH-U14S. If you're still hitting 100C with a noctua then your chip is a dud and i'd get an RMA from Intel.

Main: i7 2600 | ASUS P8Z68-V | 2x4GB Vengeance 1600 | GTX 580 | WD Blue 1TB | Antec TP-650C | NH U12S | W7 x64

Backup: X6 1090T | MSI K9A2 Platinum | 4x2GB XMS2 800 | GTX 550Ti | WD Blue 1TB |  Antec VP-450 | CM TX3 | W7 x64
