GPU Upgrade Advice

Go to solution Solved by Stav Kats,

Go for the Corsair CX600.

The 7870XT is like a lower clocked 7950 but still better than a 7870. However, the problem with this card is the cooler. It gets pretty loud and hot, so I wouldn't recommend it. i would advise you to wait till the 760Ti comes out(like 3weeks) and see the performance. Also if it comes with the Shadowplay feature it would be awesome(lets you capture your PC games with only 5% performance drop and it records at H.264--> better than anything else).

Hope it helped.

Hey guys,

I have a questions for you guys.

I want to upgrade my GPU to an AMD 7870, but i don't know wich one.

The ones i'm looking at:

-Sapphire HD 7870 oc GHZ. Edition (with free games) Max wattage: 190W

-Club 3D HD 7870XT Jokercard (is XT any better?)     Max wattage: 210W

Also if i'm going for a Nvidia card my budget is €250-,

And the last question what kind of psu do i need (My current one is 400W)

I had the Corsair cx600m in mind.

Hope you guys can help me.

~Mark

You have a 7870 reference card, and you already want to upgrade to a 7870 LE? tbh that's not much of an increase in performance http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/tahiti-le-7870-7930-benchmark,3401-3.html

Unless you've got another rig to split the parts between I'd save my money for a different upgrade down the road. Yes, It can O/C (most likely) to the range of a reference 7950, but still it's up to you i guess.

I'd listen to Stav Kats

When upgrading your PSU I found this sweet deal on NCIX US (I don't know if you live here in the U.S.) http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59616&vpn=P1650SNLB9&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1281

I'm going from a EVGA 650ti SSC edition to a 7870 LE card that's what i'd consider a much needed step up in performance.

The reference 7870 Tahiti LE runs just as quiet & cool as a 660 Ti, so I wouldn't call it hot or loud.
Also Sapphire has a Dual-X model which is even cooler & quieter.

Also 7870 tahiti le overclocks very well and outperforms a stock 670.

As quiet as 660 Ti, quieter than regular 7870.

Temps are also quite cool.

I have heard many people talking about how loud this card is and if you overclock it, it can get pretty hot like 83 degrees.(I haven't used it myself, just from what I have heard).
