I am doing some tutorials and would like to capture my desktop screen. Let me know your suggestions on good software for the same?

Free and Paid.

 

I would like to have the capability to add text after capturing the video to add more details.

I am having Windows 8.1

OBS, Dxtory, Fraps, Shadowplay and MSI Afterburner are all valid options.

Fraps needs a lot of disk space (and a fast drive), but can record your whole desktop, but will destroy the FPS when recording Aero desktop.

I don't know if any of the other programs can record the desktop, but I'm sure someone can help you out with that.

OSB supports encoding on the fly using Intels iGPU, and there is a fork for AMDs VCE. It's also free and works on AMD, Nvidia and Intel (with varying benefits).
