Hi,

I just built my first PC but for some reason the computer keeps rebooting. I checked several times the connections of the buttons in front of the case and all the connections seem to be done correctly. The hard drives are empty but I don't think that's the cause. When I press the power button, the LED turns on for a few seconds, the PSU and the CPU cooler run fine for a few seconds, but then it keeps rebooting.

I don't know what information are needed to troubleshoot, so feel free to ask.

Thanks

I don't know what you mean, but I get nothing on the screen.

Right, Chances are the PSU is dodgy. Got a spare one you can test with?

No I don't. I'd like to add that it just keeps rebooting, and pressing or holding the power button again doesn't change anything. The only wait to stop the computer is by either switching the PSU off or unplugging it.

Does it beep when it restarts?

I don't think so, plus the CPU had an integrated GPU. It's a core i3 4130.

Still worth a shot though. The BIOS could be looking for a PCIe card.

I just ran a test and realized that not only the video card is not active, but none of the hard drives seem to be active neither. I mean the GPU's fan is not spinning and I can't feel any vibration from the hard drives. Please help !

I had a problem very similar to this after I finished my first build also. Turned out that I didn't connect the CPU power to the motherboard because I thought it was for a graphics card. After I connected that, everything worked well.

This.

Did you hook up the molex cable to the CPU connector?

Yes I did. I connected both the 24 pin Molex cable and the 12 pin one.

I'm lost at the moment. Feel free to post any suggestions and I'll read and reply in the next hours. This computer made stay up until 3 a.m. !

1) check all connections. 24 pin, 8 or 4 pin and so on.

2) Make sure the cpu fan is working

3) make sure you have enough watts to run the system

4) try installing an operating system (should fix the problem)

5) if all else fails, i'd say its most likely a bad part you have installed thats causing it to fail

Hey, I just thought of this...

Is the PSU fan working when you turn on the PC?

Hi,

So I finally found out what the issue was : it was definitely the motherboard. This morning I removed one stick of ram and I was even able to install windows and play some games. There was probably a short circuit in one of the slots. However, I just plugged in a USB cable on the back USB port and the computer wouldn't even turn on. A few minutes later, it was working again then it stopped after I plugged it in again.

In short, the computer is quite unstable with a bunch of short circuits everywhere so I need to change the motherboard. I can order one in the next days, but it will probably take about 10 days before I receive it. I'd like to know if using such a motherboard for about two weeks is safe for the other components.

Thanks

I wouldn't risk it, mate. I may be over cautious but I wouldn't trust it to regulate the voltage properly if it's playing up like that.

Ok I've been using it for a few more hours tonight without any issue (except an error message before Windows launches saying that one stick of ram hasn't been recognized) but I think that you're right. I'll just wait until I get the new motherboard. Thanks so much for your help :-)

Hope it all goes well with the new mobo!
