Week 52--Upgrade Path Part 1

Go to solution Solved by TopplesS,

Base System:

Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($79.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair SPEC-02 ATX Mid Tower Case  ($39.99 @ Micro Center)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $496.62
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-08-17 22:28 EDT-0400

Rationale:
-Starting with an overclockable i5 and suitable Z97 board for a stable base. Cooling to come later, for now the stock HSF will do.
-4GB single module with room for another later on.
-Starting with a reasonably sized SSD because it makes life easier to just chuck in a secondary storage drive rather than do a clone or fresh install onto the SSD when the upgrade happens.
-Sturdy case from Corsair which looks good and is functional for a great price. Will fit whatever we want to throw in it.
-Really good value for money with the Bronze 500W from EVGA.

Unfortunately no GPU as of yet, however the integrated graphics should be able to handle low settings fairly well.

Upgrade:

Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 290 4GB DirectCU II Video Card  ($379.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $496.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-08-17 22:51 EDT-0400

Rationale:

-With the fresh pile of ca$h we see a Hyper 212 EVO to allow for OCing.

-Another 4GB module is installed to bring the total to 8GB.

-A 1TB HDD is whacked in for miscellaneous storage of data.

-And the powerplant itself - the R9 290 - makes its way off the bench.

All up, for $1000, you can't go wrong.

Ah I see. Yeah that could be a problem. I should hope among this community it won't be... Not sure how you'd police that.

I could make it where no one below let's say 75 posts can enter the contest.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

Not a bad idea.

We aren't allowed to do this...however if we notice something off we are suppose to report it right away...the mods will keep eye on user accounts and fake accounts for us tho.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

@CornOnJacob please be sure to watch as this one right here voted on his own..

Don't worry, that's why votes are always public.

Are there any restrictions for, say... new created accounts or accounts with low or even NO posts etc... cus i can easily win... you know..

And also, i wont vote for anyone else so i have bigger chances to win... ya know...

So yeah... id say stop with gifts now. Power and money make people corrupt. So dont give out any of them.

And if you will excuse me gentlemen, i go dig out some accounts to vote for me. LoL

Go go go @TopplesS you are the winning horse! :D

If a voter has only a handful of posts, I will be suspicious, but I won't jump to conclusions or try to get anyone banned. You are totally free to not vote for anyone else, I just left it open-ended in case someone wanted to enter and vote.

-snip- However I don't know if @CornOnJacob wants to make it so that people who enter can't vote. Anymore questions please pm me in the future.

I don't think that will really solve anything, especially since the votes are already public.

I don't mind entering and voting if I think there are other builds worthy of the crown. ;) It just needs to be known (and it should already be self-explanatory) that you shouldn't vote for your own build and that such votes will not be counted.

It says in the rules:

2. Please do not vote for yourself (votes are public so I won't count your vote if you do).

I will be harsher in the future and DQ people from a contest if they vote for themselves, rather than just disregarding it (I obviously don't have the power to give demerits on accounts since I'm not a mod).

I don't think that a minimum post-count is allowed on this forum and it really just inspires post-mongering. @ddbtkd456 and I can check the winner's profiles (and voter's profiles) for anything fishy, but for now it does not seem to be out of control. If you are a voter and your account is suspicious (recent creation date w/ 0 other interactions on the forum), I will PM you to try and resolve the issue privately. If you have proof (or heavy suspicion) of foul play,  please bring it to my attention, but do not harass anyone.
