Retrive data from an external hard drive

Go to solution Solved by FrankTheTank,

Don't format it, but try a program like EaseUse Partition Recovery or Recuva to recover files.

Hello.

I need help with getting my data off my external drive. It's a Seagate Expansion Portable Drive 1TB. When i connect it to my computer it has some trouble starting, and i need to twist and turn the cable abit. But when the green light goes on, and i can hear and feel the hard drive running. The window that comes up on my computer is that I need to format this disk before i can use it. It also comes up on "My Computer" where it's name is changed to "Local Disk"

Hope there is an way tp recover the files. Thanks

I am the biggest, the best, better than the rest!

Did you format it on accident?  If not, click cancel and don't format it.  Keep it plugged in and run a program like TestDisk to try to recover files.

Linux "nerd".  If I helped you please like my post and maybe add me as a friend :)  ^_^!

If the drive was previously damaged that you need to get it off the external drive then there's no way in my knowledge that you can get it off if it's in this situation.be

I used it yesterday, and it worked fine, It has been travelling, but has not taken any hits or falls.

Try to take the drive out of the enclosure and use something like Recuva to try and get the files off of it (or if you can get to them through Explorer) try to copy them to your hard drive.
