I am building a computer for a friend. My specs are z77 saber tooth and 3770k. I am trying to decide on a gpu. I will be using a 1080p monitor and he will be gaming(my friend)

Option 1 would be a gtx 780

option #2 gtx 590 classified from ebay for 800$

option 3 660 ti ftw sli

SLI & multi-GPU configurations in general have issues, SLI for example is not supported in Hitman Absolution & doesn't work in the BETA stage of the majority of games. There are also some micro-stutter issues in some games including Far Cry 3.
A 780 is your best bet.

I would probably just go with a GTX780. You'll be able to OC it and in the future, if you really wish SLI it with another. SLI and CF kinda has some issues atm.

a single GPU option is always prefered over dual GPU setups as the other ones before me have said. But i want to note that a single 780 is overkill for single 1080p gaming? Maybe a single 660ti? And save the money to upgrade lateron? Or wait for a 760ti or something?

I would go with the 780 because single card configurations are always better than multiple card configurations because sometimes you can get issues with games. It performs pretty close to the Titan.

I'd recommend multi GPU if you can find it for a fair bit cheaper used.

 

I'd never recommend three way SLI for anything except swag, and I'd never recommend SLI with two new lower end graphics cards over one higher end graphics card.

i would go with the 3 SLI 660ti or the GTX780. You should get more fps with 3 660Ti especially if they are the 3GB versions than a single GTX780 but the GTX780 is newer and it isn't a slouch by no means.
