so i do youtube and before i had a case i used to put my mobo ontop of a amazon shipping box. my hdd ontop of a shammy right next to the box and well... you get the idea then couple months later my uncle saw it and told me how its a fire hazard.( i  had a oem mobo and ram and stuff but a gtx 650BOOST and some other aftermarket stuff) one day i was plugging in a usb in my mobo (naked mobo to be exact) and the mobo shorted out and started smoking then it died shutting the pc with it. later on i got couple hundred bucks for a new mobo and case and ssd and stuff. i remember how quiet my pc was and loved making commentaries. now its not at all i have tested a couple things out..

1.bought a new case(corsair 300r)  fan (sharkoon shark blades- which are quite nice and quiet)

2. new cpu cooler, my old one was a silent rosewill cooler but it didnt do much cooling.

3. tested out my fans by unplugging all except my cpu fan.

when i tested the fans thats when i found out that my hdds are the ones that are causing the noise. i touched my 2 top drives (the lowest one is a brand new seagate drive. i found out that not only are my top 2 drives making all the noise but they are also very VERY hot specialy my wd black drive(the top 1 and the middle is a blue drive) i thought that my placing a smaller running blue drive would help the other 2 not heat up alot but that was not the case at all. now im very worried. the fact that my 1TB black drive is from 2008(when they first came out) and my blue drive is actually a oem drive.. i am worried about the heat issue thus making the noise issue, thus not making me a happy camper.

here are some pictures and graphs to show my point. i know that nzxt cams is still finicky so i also put in the hw monitor stuff.

the 2 wd drives are way hotter. but all of them are really hot. compared to my cpu and gpu my gpu temps are 37 degrees and my cpu is 41 i dont understand how my hdds are so hot

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

They may be failing. Does the performance from them feel any slower than before?

when i cold start my pc they do take 2 ticks(that little pin that reads the spinning drives) to get going. but the rest of the day they work well also heres a graph of my loads. oh and when i access the recycle bin it can sometimes take long and sometimes not that long.

the E drive is my 1TB drive and G is my external. they are mostly being used. the 1TB is at 90% load and the smalled 320 gig drive is the blue drive while the 3tb is my new seagate.

Well I don't think it's the drives overheating because 42 degrees is perfectly fine.

Try copying some files from that drive to somewhere else and see how slow it is. I'd try to back up those drives if you can.

the 42 degrees is my seagate drive and yea that is fine. but the two others are the ones im worried about. when i started copying a 6 gig file from my backup toshiba drive to my black drive it reached 50 degrees and i feel like that is quite toasty.

Not maybe but are failing. Excessive noise + heat in a HDD = 100% failure.

You seem to have a high ambient or poor air flow in your case, how are your case fans configured? How much fans for intake and outtake and what are the RPMs?  The HDDs are failing and with proper air flow your HDDs should not go higher than 40C and this is with use.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

I got 1 intake and 1 outtake. I have a power design gpu so it intakes air from side panel i dont have a intake infront of the hdds. And the case i use is the Corsair 300r

The front intake runs at about 800rpm same with the rear. And my cpu fan runs at 1000

This is poor air flow....you need more and better fans. Look for some with high static pressure. Put two in front.

i had a 2 upfront configuration before. but one of the blades broke off my fan im gonna end up putting my rear fan up front. as of right now the temps have gone down to  40-45 as i am re-backing everything into my external drive

Hard drives aren't in trouble until they get up around 60 degrees. They shut off at 65 usually, I think.

I had a really old WD blue that shut off if it wasn't actively cooled. It just shut down during heavy use. It still works fine.

i fixed the problem (i guess) i took my rear fan and put it right infront of the cages for direct airflow. now my drives stand at 35-39 degrees under load.
