Urgent - Need help with External HDD issue

Optimus Prime
Go to solution Solved by Optimus Prime,

enclosure are just an interface for converting SATA to USB

your Windows will detect the drive and install the drivers

if it already NTFS format

it will show as another drive in computer

It can't auto format without asking you for permission. You should be fine

Thanks guys

I'll cross my fingers and plug it in when my computer finishes downloading dlc

Hi LTT

My cat has been knocking my external HDD of my desk and just broke the data port on the external drive. I've managed to pull the drive apart to get the HDD which appears to be fine. The HDD looks fine with no cracks or burns on the PCB (discs are unknown). If I plug it into my PC will it auto wipe the data or would it be safer to buy a new external hdd enclosure.

Thanks

Windows won't usually wipe that stuff. You have to plug it in, click start > right click computer > click manage > click disk management. It should automatically tell you to initialize. That's on win 7, any ways.

My rig: Intel Core i7-8700K OC 4.8 | NZXT Kraken X62 | ASUS Z370-F | 16 GB Trident Z RGB 3000 (2x8) | EVGA 1070 SC | EVGA SuperNova NEX650G1 | NZXT H700 | Samsung 250GB 850-EVO | 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDDs

Do enclosure's do anything funny with the data when they store it on the HDD.

I run Window's 8.1 - if I initialize will it prompt me? My biggest worry is that it auto formats
