There's nothing glaringly wrong with that build, Z87 boards still work with the 4790k. It won't work for broadwell, but that won't affect you.

And yea, the monitor is expensive, but oh well. It's a great monitor.

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

Most of the time you will need a regular Haswell CPU to flash the BIOS to get the Haswell Refresh CPU's to work properly. And that monitor is balls overpriced.

Well, once it's built and I test it a bit, i'll come back and post on how terrible my decision obviously was.

Don't worry too much, folks on the internet sometimes get a bit enthusiastic

about giving advice. You post a build log, you'll usually get feedback, especially

if you make some unusual choices (heck, I'm sure there are more than a few

people who'd like to give me a slap on the head for building a 1366 system in

2013/2014, but that's not going to dissuade me :D ), but such is life.

true there is nothing wrong with Z87 and Z97 is not that much better people have to think more with their brain

since most people won't use all the new and special features of the z97 boards and never will use them so why bother buying an mobo when you only use 20% of it for most people i speak.

its like alpenwasser says you can build older pc that will perform near to the new pc its like ugrading from 4770K to 4790k it will be better but just a waste of money for like 2% more performance if you already would need it.

i like your build and hope to see some pictures when you start it ;)

and would you overclock the cpu? would like to see benchmarks to.

If something comes with thermal paste, you can almost always bet that it's not high quality

And you could almost do my build with one monitor and a 750 watt psu and maybe some other slight downgrades
