You are not allowed to sell your Steam Account or give it away or transfer in to somebody else in any way.

You can only trade games that are stored as (gifts). Games that have already been activated can not be traded.

Just so you know, no you don't own the games you have on steam, you are basically paying to have access to the licence of the game, but you don't own it.

I can see why steam can sell their games so cheap now, not including no overhead with boxes etc. Meh, doesn't bother me, it's the way the world of gaming is going anyway.

The answer is inaccurate.

The question was whether or not it is illegal, not whether or not it is permitted.

 

The answer to the question is no, it is not illegal to sell your account. That said, it is against the terms and conditions which means that although it is legal, the person you sell the account to may find it could be deactivated by Valve.

In certain parts of the EU it's perfectly legal and in the TOS.
