I need help with selecting a water cooler. My choices are the Cooler Master Glacer and the Swiftech H220-X. I chose these because they are expandable. Newegg has the Cooler Master Glacer for $100 until the 11th while the Swiftech is out of stock for who knows how long. Should i take the plunge and get the Cooler Master or wait for the h220 to be back in stock. Also please provide reasons for your suggestion such as performance and ease of use/expansion. Thanks in advance.

I would wait for the H220-X. I've just found out exspensive water cooling is, save the coin for the extra's you want later on down the track.

Welcome to Linus Tech Tips! I would go big and go with the H220-X, or go air and get the Noctua D15. The Glacier just isn't in the books for me.

Cooler master is not shit, Swifttech is just better.  But by no means is Cooler Master "shit"

Thanks. Think I'll wait for the H220-X like everyone in the thread suggested. Quick question though. Some research showed that the Glacer was designed by Swiftech and is basically a rebranded H220 (non x). People are saying avoid the Cooler Master but since its designed and mostly assembled by Swiftech, does that imply that Swiftech has QA issues?

Swiftech is the OEM that makes the cooler, Cooler Master is the brand that sells it and has their name printed on the sticker.

@Ragin Asian

welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forums!

why? why water cooling? what kind of temperatures are you getting on air cooling?

what kind of expectations are you looking to get while water cooling?

the glacer 240L and H220 are the same. the new 220x is an offshoot of the older

H220 with designs to have their own patent instead of Astek.

either will do the expansion, but ease of use it is not. adding a GPU sounds easy

but the implementation is tougher as the GPU addition requires more than just

a GPU block and fittings/tubing.

I want to go with a water cooled setup because I want to get a higher over clock to lower my video encoding times and temps when encoding. Also, I plan to SLI my 760 and dont want thermal throttling on my top card when I do it. As for temps about 60 degrees celsius.

I would say you should get exactly what you want, and if it is out of stock, you should wait for it to come in stock. I would think if you are going to spend the kind of money for watercooling, you should get something you are completely satisfied with and enjoy, or else you'll end up buying what you wanted in the first place, and spending twice as much because you didnt buy what you wanted at first.

Don't know what case you are putting this in but if i were you i would get the CM Glacer 240l and save some money but if you don't need to save any money and can afford the Swiftech 220x i would then get a NZXT X61 once it can fit in your case.

I considered the X61 but decided against it because I wanted the expandability for future upgrades. Also mounting isn't an issue as my source 530 has ample mounting points.

Then i would go with the CM 240L. The Corsair water coolers have quite a bit of pump trouble. Almost all of the AIO watercoolers with the 240mm and 280mm radiators and even some 120mm and 140mm radiators can be expanded as the pump is strong enough.
