I found a heat gun at my local hardware store, was about 40$.
Do you mean using a lighter instead of a heat gun? Any standard cheap lighter is OK to melt your sleeving put I would advise you to use a heat gun for your heat shrink as you have more control over the amount of heat, and are less likely to bubble or carbon the heat shrink. But a lighter will work if you are careful. :)

Excellent guide, and nice clear photos too.

If anyone's looking for even more detail, Lutro0 Customs' YouTube channel has some really comprehensive video tutorials (maybe even too much so, but hey - you can always skip past the stuff you understand already, and it's always better than too little information.)

I'm going to try to find some more pics but this is what I have to share with you guys so far. I decided to sleeve my computer in "commando green" and "vanilla sands" colors from Nils MDPC site. It's nearly done for the most part. Here are a few of the pics that I was able to snag early on of me sleeving my first SATA cables. I'll try my best to contribute more to this thread as I finish rebuilding my computer.

Nice color combo dude, that would look sweet inside a C70 with a few Noctua's ;) Would love to see some finished results when you are done.

I sleeved a Noctua fan and the adapters today in Vanilla Sands MDPC-X sleeving. I think I'll be sleeving a front panel of system cables sometime this week but I'm not sure yet. I'll be sure to post my results if I do though.

Just buy extension cables for what ones you want to sleeve. Though you might want to check if you've got the cable management room first.

I'm back with pics as promised from my finished rig. Here you guys go:

This first pic is not the ideal result but it's decent at least. The goal is for all of the heatshrink to be flush and for there to be no bumps in the heatshrink. Pic below anyways:

My 24 pin power and some SATA cables:

02_zps11a7e7cc.jpg

I got my PCI-E power connectors near flawless since they were the last cables I sleeved. By then I sort of mastered the process.

Thanks for the kind words. As they mentioned in the live stream, I spent a ton of time trying to decide what colors I would put where. The PCI-E power connectors almost turned out being one color and I almost didn't sleeve my front panel cables. I'm definitely happy with the end result though.

Honestly, your heatshrink looks a lot better than mine. It's far more even and consistent.

Can anyone recommend what AWG to use for fans?

22awg :)

Heatshrinkless sleeving doesn't requite as much skill involved as heashrinked sleeving.

Of course heatshrinkless will always look cleaner because you never have to line anything up, you can have your sleeve melted at different points that would be very visible if you did heatshrinked sleeving.

That being said, someone who has patience, and someone who is willing to try and try again till they get it right will always make Heatshrinked sleeving look a million times better than heatshrinkless

Please tell me you would prefer this to heatshrinkless..

Decent, I always sleeve my cables without heat shrink though, less of a pain trying to keep all the shrinks even plus it just looks so clean.  I use paracord though, but that's a personal thing that has meaning to me specifically.
