NH-U14S vs. U12S?

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

I have 2x4 GB Ripjaws planned in my parts list right now. For now I'm going to game and do some light picture and video editing. But I'm trying to be "future-proof" (if I use the term correctly) as possible so I can make my life easier having enough room for upgrades.

On UD3H by Gigabyte. U14S and RipjawX on 1st and 3rd slot. Here's with horizontal position:

What mobo are you going for?

I'm debating to either get the U14S or U12S. U12S allows me to use the first ram slot in case I ever upgrade, but the U14S probably gives better temps. Which is better? What are the temps on each with the i5-4690k?

I'd go for the U14S.

The U12S will be fine. I've run mine on a overclocked Phenomn X6 for about 4 years, never really get over 55 degrees C. My 4690 barely got about 35 with it before swapping it out back to the AMD chip.

MOBO: ASUS X79 Pro CPU: i7 3820 Ram: Corsair Vengence 32Gb 2133mhz (8x4) GPU: 2 x Sapphire R9 290 in X-fire PSU: Seasonic G series 750w Drives: 1 x 750 gig WD black, 3x WD Black 1TB, 1 x Segate Barrcuda 1 TB, 1 x Toshiba 2TB, Intel 520 240gig SSD Case: Enthoo Primo w/ Green and Blue LED lighting.

then the U12S it won't be as good as the 14 but if you want to get more ram you can without swaping the fans or getting low profile ram

There isn't much difference in the heatsink SFAIK so I'd go for the NH-U14S, as it's a larger fan so "should" push more air at lower RPM so keep lower noise levels.
