8.1 vs 7 OEM? Which one to pick to a brand new build?

Go to solution Solved by aidenrelkoff,

You get a small performance boost in 8 in some games and you can set it up to work like windows 7. I use classic start and boot directly to desktop. I never even see those stupid blocks. So I would go 8.

same, my desktop has spent like less then 30 mins on the metro screen in the 8 months i have used it

So I've been using 7 for the past 4 years and I'm building a new system for gaming and photo editing. I'm a photographer so the photo editing part is a biiiig thing on my end. I've heard mixed opinions for windows 8 and now that I'm updating my rig I've come to a crossroad: Should I get windows 7 as an OEM-version and face the truth that I won't be updating my set up without OS update as well or just update to win 8. The one thing that I've really come to hate in 8 is that it didn't have start-button but now that they have it, I don't really know which one to pick. I don't know if this effects the pick but I don't currently have a NAS but as soon as I have the money, it will happen.

Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Windows 8.1 is much fatser, so why not?

And the Metro UI is similar to the original start menu.

win 8 has had a start button since like week 1 :P just not officially added by Microsoft, and win 8.1 is better.

I would go with Windows 8 just because it will have more support in the future and it is more optimized than Windows 7. There are third party start menus that you can install which should make it a lot better. I personally hate a lot of the changes in Windows 8, but I will be changing over from 7 pretty soon because of the better optimization and will have to just find ways around the things I dislike, like getting a third party start menu for example.

8.1. Better optimized, plus upcoming support for DX12.

Windows 7 Also has DX12 Support as far as I know

No it does not.  Microsoft said they were dropping support for it a few weeks ago.

Oh, I should probably stay updated on it, that is a problem :(

They also said that they would not update 7 with new features, and it will be completely dropped around 2020 or something.
