Hey Guys,

I'm planning on getting a PC built by PC Specialist and would like some tips on things I could remove to shed the cost. Here's what I have so far: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-750-gaming-pc/?set_country=GB&set_currency=GBP&x=13&y=7

It's currently at £1690 and I can only go roughly £100 more. I want to use it for gaming and CAD software (like solidworks, because my laptop doesn't run it that well). This is my first time not buying a pre-built computer and I'd appreciate any help. But please don't be too harsh, like I said, it's my first.

Thanks,

Been

PS Please don't suggest windows 8.1, I've got that on my laptop and I despise it :)

Why not just get it from PCPartPicker? It's easy to build, theres lots of guides on the internet and Im sure a family member could help out?

If you want this PC to max out it's potential, don't be daft, get Windows 8.1 and revert it to the Windows 7 look.

You're not linking the right thing. Here's my suggestion.

What are you doing with it? Gaming or Video Editing?

For 100 more, you could do this...

Two great 780 ti's (from EVGA, an amazing brand), and a 4690k, which for anything but editing, will do just as well as a 4790k.

If you needed to shed costs, you could without much performance difference by lowering the RAM speed, and amount. 8gb at 1600mhz is all games need now.

I just realized that list didn't have any price on the HDD... I updated.

Hey again!

To answer 2 questions:

1) I'd have to it build on my own, I don't know anyone who has ever built a PC

2) The PC is for Gaming and CAD. I don't intend to do any video editing.

Thanks for all the advice so far!

For that purpose, I would go with the 4690k, the 4790k COULD have an effect, but I feel the extra GPU acceleration would be better.

Building it yourself is very easy. If you put something in the wrong hole, then you're really trying to screw up.

Linus has MANY guides, and you can follow step by step. We're also here to answer any questions.
