I am going to change my motherboard and i need to re thermal paste the CPU this summer and I was wondering if its the same?

 

The bottle I have is 90% ethanol (pure alcohol) is it safe to use?

Just use nail varnish remover. Its so much easier to find and you probably have some at home already.

 

Any solvent will work. As long as it doesnt contain sugar it will be fine.

Rum would be a bad choice. It has sugars and other solutes that will be left behind on the CPU.

Probably. But just in case. Some people see alcohol and think drinking alcohol will work too. 90 proof can be confused for 90% they are both ethanol. Its a mistake that's been made before.
