No they're the same GPU just underclocked really it's that simple :P OC it up.... There are some locked stream processors but not too many and well we all know the work around for that... (Bios Flash warning Bricking is a possibility)

You can't flash the BIOS to unlock the extra shaders and cores. They are severed off at a hardware level.

It was possible to unlock the shaders on the HD 6950 to make it a 6970, but AMD didn't allow that for the HD 7970 and HD 7950....which is what the R9-280 and R9-280X are.

Not all are I believe some aftermarket cooled ones just do bios flash like sapphire does... but I may be wrong I know you can do it with some other cards like the 270s and 290s (again only some 290s however)

no they are different cards with different hardware physically

Op i would say its not worth it just overclock it

.-. if you simply read an extra 2 comments on the thread you would've realized this had already been pointed out to me and I was already aware there were sometimes physical hardware differences...

The only card that is like that though is the 270 and 270x all the others are diffrent

no same is true for alot of other cards xD those are just 2 with the same number of "unlocked" stream processors out of the box.
