Question About Software Firewalls

I'm using Comodo Firewall and whenever I play a game or watch a movie, I always put it in Game Mode. Question: Does putting firewalls in Game Mode reduce their effectiveness at all?

No, it just allows the game to pass through the firewall while still protecting it .

You're actually wrong there, from what I know of, firewalls in general when set to gaming mode, certain AV's also have this feature, it turns off all notifications that could potentially Tab you out of the game, including the sounds, update sounds, etc.

The simple answer is no, it just stops the possibility of being tabbed out with the added benefit of no notifications.

If you use Windows Vista and up, you don't need any Firewall software. The one built-in Windows, with a router, give you a very good protection for home usage for all.

Unlike XP, the Windows Firewall actually works, and give you complete control inbound and outbound, of services, application and ports.

I prefer Comodo Firewall. There are features that I like that the defaults don't offer.

I use Comodo firewall on my laptop running under Xp, it's pretty good.

I concur. I also like watching the traffic flow on the firewall icon too. It's helpful in troubleshooting sometimes.

Yea pretty much mate, I do the same if I notice my speeds dip.

I don't know... I see that information from the task manager.

 

Edit: Nvm, I have Win8, that's why I see that info with the Task Manager. But you get that info on the Resource Monitor panel of Vista and up.

I don't have task manager open 24/7 except for killing programs and seeing how much RAM a program is consuming. For general usage, I always peak at my firewall to see what's going on.

It doesn't bother me. I have the Behavior Blocker disabled. Notifications don't pop up that much, if at all.

What pop ups?

Go to the advanced setup area, and in the first tab, first item, disable all the notification stuff.

yeah but if you disable all notifications then how are you supposed to know when a software tries to access the internet.  For me is paramount to give or deny permission to specific software or utilities.

Like I said, I hardly get popups.
