Hi Guys,

I'm currently using an AcBel CE2 500w PSU, and now I'm planning to upgrade it, since I'll be buying a GPU sooner. But, I'm still undecided what PSU to pick.

Here are my current choices:

 - Corsair CS650M 80+ Gold

 - FSP Aurum 650W 80+ Gold

 - Cooler Master V650 80+ Gold

Is it worth it to spend extra bucks in 80+ Gold PSUs? or It'll be good to just pick an 80+ Bronze PSU?

If you would, please suggest me a better PSU on my list which is within $100 price range.

To give you guys an idea what my system currently have

CPU: i5 3570 w/ Corsair H60

RAM: 8 GB 1600Mhz Crucial Ballistix Elite RAM

GPU: Planning to buy a GTX 760 or R9 280X

HDD: 1TB WD Blue, and 128GB Samsung EVO SSD

Thank You!

I would go with corsair. Havent heard of FSP. Cooler master should be high quality too.

80+ gold will have higher quality components than 80+ bronze.

I would recommend 80+ Gold for most builds consistently. Out of those, the Cooler Master V650 seems like the best option.

Take a look at these, which I would personally recommend more:

The EVGA PSU is a bit cheaper yet still high quality. I've been using an EVGA PSU for months and haven't had a single problem. I'm sure their other PSUs will do just the same for you. :)

80+ bronze and above is completely fine. As for PSU choice, you can't go wrong with trusted brands like EVGA, Corsair, Cooler Master, Seasonic, etc. If you run into a brand you don't see often, either look it up extensively or DO NOT BUY IT AT ALL. One bad PSU can mean that you need to replace the most expensive parts of your setup.

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Am I missing something? 650W is way more than you need for a 760 or 280X. 500W would be fine for either, since you won't be overclocking that locked CPU.

I would recommend the Cooler Master V550, Seasonic G 550W, or XFX XTR 550W. And not because they're 80Plus Gold certified, but because they're good units.

I would go with corsair. Havent heard of FSP. Cooler master should be high quality too.

80+ gold will have higher quality components than 80+ bronze.

Corsair is not the only option.

Fortron/FSP is an OEM/manufacturer, and they also sell their own power supplies under their own brand, FSP. They're a very common OEM, and don't have a reputation for being very good, to put it kindly.

The only Cooler Master series I recommend as high quality are the Seasonic-made V Series and the VS Series made by Enhance.

Yes, Gold units probably have better quality components with a better design. Efficiency and 80Plus ratings should only be a rough measure of quality.

from cooler master i only recommed the V series which are made by seasonic

only the ones with super flower inside like the G2 but its too much for this build

As I mentioned above, the Cooler Master VS Series by Enhance is also excellent.

And yes, EVGA started with the unimpressive FSP units. The Leadex-based Superflower-made units are excellent. EVGA's budget units are from HEC, and are only acceptable because they are so cheap, and therefore compete with the explosion-prone awful units and Corsairs lower CX Series.
