DayZ - Which version should I get?

I think I'll go ahead and get DayZ now, what mainly turned me off from getting it months ago was that there seems to be many problems regarding performance, hackers, and glitches. Hopefully they've fixed a lot of those issues by now.

Which version should I get? Also, if I were to get one of the Arma games for the mod, I may not even play Arma. Even if I do, I doubt I'd really like it much.

There's Arma 2 & OA for that DayZ mod, there's also Arma 3's DayZ mod, and there's the DayZ standalone. I'm not sure if there are any others or not.

Graphics don't really concern me much with this game, I just want the best experience I can get for DayZ.

Which should I get?

Just get the standalone. It runs like shit right now, but hopefully it will get better as it moves out of Alpha.

Arma 2 & OA + DayZ Mod would be my choice. DayZ SA is still very empty and boring, whereas the mod has things like Epoch and such which add loads of new stuff.

Just make sure you get DayZ Commander to make things easier.

Arma 2 DayZ is filled with hackers. Standalone was filled with hackers last time I played. I have never played Arma 3's DayZ mod, but I know I have put in nearly 70 hours into Arma 3 and still feel like I have barely gotten started. Standalone has a lot of potential and with more guns being added recently, it may be your best bet. However, if you are looking to build bases and drive vehicles in DayZ, Arma 2 will be your best option.

I should be studying.

Standalone, It's way better right now than it was a couple of months ago.
Arma 3 Dayz mod is meh, but the mod is awesome.
Imo standalone right now has more players and it's a very dynamic game, while the mod always stays the same.
3-4 months ago everyone used to go to balota, then elektro, North west, cherno, berenzino and now North east.
That's why I prefer Dayz sa

I've found that it actually runs fairly well now ( I can actually get 60FPS in cities, rather than 15 xD) It's still buggy and boring as hell though. If you play solo, one hit from a zombie without bandages is pretty much game over, may as well just let it kill you. Everyone shoots on sight too, even on PVE servers.

I stand corrected.

So, then everything else is horrid. :D

Stay away from Dayz standalone, I was enjoying it when I was able to tell myself it was bad because alpha but they announced a few months ago that they are completely redesigning the engine AGAIN so that put them back ANOTHER couple years and has slowed down a lot of core things that need to be fixed.

As far as Arma 2 Dayz mod there are plenty of different versions and every server can have tons of custom stuff and it is still extremely populated so I would suggest this.

Arma 3 Breaking point is actually really fun and will get better. There is also Arma 3 Epoch coming soon which is going to be amazing but both are going to be buggy for awhile longer and Arma 3 is way more expensive so up to you.
