What's the reason for comparing a desktop and mobile CPU?

"How hard can it be?" - Jeremy Clarkson

"Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary, that's what gets you." - Jeremy Clarkson

"There's an old saying that God exists in your search for him. I just want you to understand that I ain't looking." - Leslie Nielsen

Are we talking pure performance or all around quality like temps and power consumption included?

Edit: If we talk all around performance the I7 is better with lower power consumption and heat output and better gaming performance since current games cannot utilise 8 cores

Nope. That is a mobile i7. It's not going to be as powerful just on a core to core basis. Let alone having twice as many.

Do be aware I'm not comparing in a raw absolute manner. I'm taking the platform into consideration as well and relative so what it takes. Say the I7 consumes 50% less power and is 33% weaker in performance then clearly the I7 wins.

Edit: Then again this comparison makes no damn sense. You are comparing 2 CPU's with completely different surroundings, a completely different product for a completely different audience with a very much different manufacturing process.

At stock speeds on both the FX will be 10% faster on 8 threads, but at 4 threads it's a completely different story I imagine even with the clock speed difference.

Performance per watt also the 4702MQ is... lightyears ahead of vishera

I vote for the third option: This poll is arbitrary, is irrelevant and is like saying an i7-4960x will beat a g3258.

it is in fact pretty close, the i7 has a little bit better single core performance but overall the FX seems to be a little better:

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4702MQ-vs-AMD-FX-8350

BUT, BTW...the i7-4702MQ is clocked at only 2.2GHZ...not 3.2...if the one you are talking of is indeed clocked at 3.2GHZ then it makes it much faster than the FX.

EDIT: I see it turbo at 3.2ghz on one core like all the others...it is what have been tested so the results i posted are the real deal, the FX is a better chip overall except in situations where only 1 or 2 cpu cores are being used.

hehe yeah it wins it against a 2.2ghz laptop processor... :P but almost by margin of errors.

but if you change the power settings to max power it always runs at boost clock (3,2Ghz)

only one core will hit the boost clock of 3.2ghz that's how they work.

Check turbo monitor. Unless you have force all cores active which is not present on any laptop I've seen (and I work in a repair store so I see lots of laptops) it will never reach the full turbo boost while executing instructions across all threads.
