Hey Guys!

So today My Macbook decided to Act weird today

Because Everytime I Try to Turn the damn Thing On

It Makes the Start-Up tone but the screen is still pitch black

And sometimes it shows the White loading screen For only a milisecond And turn black again

And I'm pretty sure that this thing is on because It's baking My lap

And I can hear the Exhaust fan

Note: The model is an Macbook from 2008

Running OSX 10 mountain lion

I need help ASAP

The cable that connects the monitor to the motherboard might've come loose. Yours is the aluminum one right? If it's not the cable then it might be the screen. The Apple startup chime is the equivalent of a PC POST tone so we know the logic board is is still good. I'll start looking for an ifixit guide.

@RayBalls you're looking to reseat the black cable seen in step nine

Keyboard still works though

But seriously, try to see if the display cable is nice and snug.

its a long shot but you could try doing a power reset. Unplug it, pop the battery out and hold the power button for 10 seconds. try restarting after that.

Battery is useless

It started to deform after leaving it on and Plugged Because I was Rendering a Project

It's Broken

2007 white macbook or MacBook Pro?

It seems a common issue with those is that the inverter on them goes bad. You can take it into any apple store and ask them to take a look at it. They should do diagnostics for free.

It's the Black One

Thing is 7 years old

And I Hated Every rendering session on it

I'll try to Go to an apple store

The easiest thing to do is schedule an appointment with the genius bar at the closest Apple Store.  This is free, despite what a previous poster said.  The only cost comes from the replacement of parts should your device require it.  They will at first try to run some of their diagnostic tools to see if they can get something going.  When scheduling the appointment, you can give some extra info and describe the problem in detail, but from past experiences, you might as well save the time now and not, because you'll probably be repeating it in store.  Be kind and courteous, but don't let them try anything you absolutely don't want.  Hopefully you've backed up things.

If they can't fix it they will probably try to offer you another model and a discount (they'll be saying it's a 7yr. old comp you need to upgrade).  If you've had multiple issues with the computer before and had to have it serviced, they may offer something else.

To me, it sounds like you might have a cooked logic board. I remember there was a design flaw in the original 06 MBP with the first batch of intel chips, but I don't know if that persisted past that first batch.  You'll want to research if there has been any major/consistent problems people have experienced with your particular version.

They fixed that issue with the 07 rev i believe.

For the connector, I think your model should have a mini-DVI port, you'll need an adapter to use that.  I don't think they included the adapter in the earlier models.

There's also the firewire 400 port, but that's not used for displays.

True, work on the old MBP's was not very good. Nice to hear that they had fixed that issue, I'm not surprised though, Apple doesn't want the Lemon Law coming into effect.

In general I wouldn't really recommend the MBP for heavy workloads.  While the specs might have been fine, I have always found their cooling to be lacking.

it's $20 just to talk to someone though. And unless he's got some form of extended apple case then they ain't gonna be able to do anything unless he wants to pay for it..

Did you buy apple care. Unless you want to risk fixing it yourself, and macs aren't the most tinker-friendly, you should take it to apple. I expect you bought apple care since its something pretty much every mac owner buys

If you have apple care they will fix it for free

Yes, but the standard Apple Care only lasts one year, its another $100 for thee 3 year coverage, and the OP's macbook is a 2007 model, so at this point it would cost him to talk to someone. You are correct though, repairs are free if you're under Apple Care.

yeah, dammit!  I suck at math!

Hahaha. I do as well. I've tore into my own MacBook a few times. It is easier to work on than my HP laptop. The newer ones are a pain in the ass to work on though. Especially the new iMacs.

Yeah, I owned a macbook pro for a few years, I upgraded it to an SSD and was about to upgrade the memory but the memory is stuck on and all that crap and oh my gosh.

And I didn't buy additional apple care, and I decided just to sell my macbook pro because it was the only computer I had and there were no Apple stores in my city, so I would be stuck.

Now am the proud owner of a custom built pc though :)
