Greetings all!  So I have a ton of interest in what I want to do across many forum boards.  When I finally get my unemployment I will be able to spend some money on equipment.  Right now I just have a PC, what kinda basic camera can I get for the best quality?  What is the best video editing software that is easy to learn?  I use movie maker but it cannot do much.  Would I need anything else even after I set up my work station?

What are you going to use the camera for? If it's just for recording yourself you could buy the Logitech C920 webcam, it's very good and not too expensive.

Video editing; Premiere Pro CS6. Adobe has video guides on their website.

I was thinking maybe a camera for 100-200 bucks.  I have an HD 7950 and an I7-2600K @ 4.5Ghz, is Premiere pro open CL?

I like Sony Vegas and it's not too hard to get for free, not like I would do such a thing though....

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

Hey,

For the camera I would suggest something like a Canon Powershot sx 240 HS or something like that. The videoquality of them is quite good, but if you could spend some more money, I would suggest getting a Canon t2i and a Rode Videomic. But a powershot should work quite well.

For editing:

I would always suggest Premier Pro. If you're a student you should pick it up quite cheap, otherwise it will be really expensive. I would suggest downloading the demos of Premier Pro and Sony Vegas, trying them out and deciding afterwards.

Don't blame me for any language faults, I'm german!

Then Premiere Pro is the way to go, as far as I know it's the best and most professional software except Final Cut and Avid.

I use this, more comprehensive than Windows Media Player, not as much of a learning curve as Adobe or Sony products.

Uses GPU (and multiple GPU's) as well as the CPU to encode.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Btw seems like those bastards at Adobe has made Premiere Pro in to a Cloud Service product that now costs a monthly fee. The CS-series of Premiere Pro is discontinued.

A t3i on sale for $200 would be a great cam.

Premiere Pro is by far the best video editing software but it's ridiculously expensive, especially if you're looking to spend no more than 200 dollars on a camera. The camera is what get's you the image quality, not the editing software. A used T3i would be a pretty good choice for a camera, no matter what you need it for.

I find sony vegas more user friendly

The real question is what resolution to use is good for just reviews?

720p or 1080p?

I have 3 cams:

an old Lumix Still/video camera

a Logitech C510 webcam

and a xperia active android phone

all of them recording at 720p and I think thats fair enough

Second thing is audio, room echo is a problem so u need a separated mic

or better to get some kind of sound isolation for the walls

or just somekind of screen covered with fabric

the other way to go is not to speak to the camera

just make video and add audio later so u can talk really close

to ur mic

try to get all ur recordings in just one format sometimes if u mix

different file formats rendering gets a little sketchy

anyway just a few tips for now

I was thinking about getting a clip mic like linus does. Do this hook directly into a camera? My headset mic actually works very well but I really don't wanna walk around with a headset.

EDIT: Sony Vegas is 600 bucks, i was looking to spend maybe 100-200 on software..

Sorry, unless you're a student and can get the student version of Premiere Pro you're stuck with movie maker if you don't want to spend more than that. :(

Final Cut being more Professional than Premiere Pro? Surely you jest?

Before Final Cut Pro X about 50% of the professional market was using Final Cut Pro and about 20% were using Avid. Now it must have shifted towards a bigger number for Avid since many companies announced that they switched to Avid due to Final Cut Pro X.

If you could find any numbers from credible sources that Premiere Pro holds a bigger market share in the professional market(big movie studios and such) I'd love to see them.

what about a freeware?

I know a few audio multi track editors that works fine

but never tried any free video editor

like this for example

http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Editor.aspx?sct=aff&ct=avangate&cid=9958

might be a good chance to start a post about these, with real feedback based on real experience
