I3 4360 + gtx 660 or i5 4460 + gtx 750ti

Matt Wakey

So I've been looking to get a pc recently for gaming and video editing, and it's a lot harder than I though it would be.

I'm not sure wether I should go with the less powerful processor and more powerful graphics card, or more powerful processor but less powerful graphics card.

Any recommendations would be appreciated

I5 4460 + 270X

he is video editing as well, depending on the program Nvidia is better. also if he's in a country where Nvidia is cheaper than AMD there is no reason to go AMD (South Africa being one of those) The 270x costs the same or more than a 760 here.

What's your budget and location?? It's 440 AUD here in Aus for a 4460 and a 270X, but for a 4360 and a 660 they'd be 350 USD.

Wow this is actually quite difficult considering you need both video editing and gaming on that kind of restriction. In this case it might not be as simple as considering just between the two. If we were to see your complete build, budget, and location (country) we'd be able to optimize it to the fullest. It is certainly possible to have both higher tier CPUs and GPUs while making certain compromises elsewhere that you're comfortable with. All the while we might even keep a nice color scheme.

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.

What are your other selected parts, maybe I (and maybe others) could trim it down a bit to allow for a better CPU/GPU.

Hmmmm, well I've got an infinitely times better system but it's without 8.1 and a kb/ mouse and monitor. Dang.

Edit:

Yeh 8.1, a monitor, a mouse and a keyboard brought the price right up, have you considered using a free OS such as Ubuntu???? As what are you looking for in a mouse/kb?? And do you need 16GB of RAM??? Or do you think 8GB will be enough?

*snip*

I see your budget goes to £661, hopefully you can add a keyboard, mouse, and OS on top of this build. As Linus and I both recommend it's almost always better to just save your money until you can get some nicer parts and fall into a nice sweet spot for budget builds. Considering what you'd have to spend on peripherals this is a bit off your budget but I believe it will be totally worth it in the end.

Well this is the best I could do. Maybe someone with more knowledge on cases can modify this and maybe make a compromise on the motherboard or PSU. I've done my best to include the i5 4590; for only £10 more you can get a big host in clock rate and general performance over the 4460. I added the 760 because Nvidia tends to perform better on more professional applications dealing with video production. It's also stronger than the GTX660 and would be worth it. However I made the choice to cut an SSD from the build, it is not necessary to run the PC and you can always upgrade later. On top of all that there aren't any aftermarket coolers because it's not necessary. Hopefully someone can help you with a better budget case as it's not my forte. I also purposefully choose a Z97 motherboard for future compatibility, also on that motherboard is two PCIE 3 that run in dual 8x so you can SLI or Crossfire should you want to. It also has a few nice features like M.2, Sata Express, solid 8 phase power delivery for a pretty good price considering the features.
