Hi guys,

I have noticed recently that my GPU temps have seemed rather high as when I am playing CS:GO (more CPU intensive I think) the GPU is hitting 80C. I was wondering what the reason for this could be? Could the cooler on the card be dust filled and do you guys have any tips on how to fix it? Or are those temps normal?

Thanks

Slippy

Are the fans spinning? What is the fan speed? Dust it out with compressed air.

Take the card out, and use compressed air to blow all the crap out of the cooler.

Sorry guys went to take a quick shower and didn't expect so many people to reply.

The card is a GTX 660 and I believe it is the reference design. I just downloaded MSI afterburner and went into a CS game and I hit around 70 degrees max this time and the fan speed didn't seem to go above 52%.

Where can I get something that uses compressed air to clean it with?

You can use an air compressor with an attached blower if you or a friend has one or you should be able to buy one at stores like Target, Best Buy or other shops. Look around and use google to find something in your area.

That is very high for that game but depends on case fans, what gpu, how good of airflow your case has etc.

I suggest downloading MSI Afterburner and cranking up the fan speed to 100%, check for dust, and re-apply high quality thermal paste.

The fan speeds seemed to be sticking at 52% max, I have turned them up to 74% (the highest it seemed afterburner would allow) and will check the temps now. Also I have a Nanoxia Deep silence 1 so the air flow may not be the best, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Also something i can recommend first hand (Sapphire Dual-x HD7870XT) is set the fans to 60% fixed instead of using a curve. The noise doesn't bother me at all and its temps NEVER exceed 70 degrees during gaming. If the noise does bother you just tweak it to your liking but honestly 60% doesn't generate a lot of noise and if you use good over-ear headphones you won't really notice it. If this is all too difficult or too much of a hassle just stick to automatic or a custom fan curve.

Would you mind telling me how to do this?

I was able to do this via Sapphire TRIXX Utility so I don't know how to do this for a GeForce Reference card though I've seen people saying that EVGA Precision software can do this.

Also just looked up your case and it scores quite poorly in terms of cooling. I would suggest getting a case with an intake fan (or 2) and several outtake fan slots (I likes me my outtake fans). Corsair C70 is an incredible case if you have the money to spend on it.

Yep that seems about right for this case. I chose it mainly for aesthetics and damn does it look good :), but yeah I can see why the cooling may not be ideal. I got it because my PC used to be very close to me with little space before I moved so I liked the quietness. I think I will try to see if I can get a cooler case (I need a way to justify another purchase after just upgrading the CPU and getting an SSD). I will look into the C70.
