They only differences are Power consumption and the missing L3 cache on the 760K

That is not in the least true. The AMD uses 2 modules, while the Intel uses 4 dedicated cores. They will do similar jobs, but the AMD is closer to a Celeron or Pentium than it is to an i5.

To say it better, it is like saying Coke and Pepsi are the same because they are made from almost the same ingediants.

AMDs IPC hasn't progressed since the debut of the agena core in 2007. That's why it's radically slower.

IPC is how many instructions it can execute per clock cycle. Intel CPUs are much faster at doing this per clock cycle. There are also underlying architechture things such as shared and dedicated L2 and FPUs.

That IPC gap is why:

A8 5600@ 4.9GHz

i5 4690K @ 4.8GHz

And also this:

http://www.bit-tech....aswell-review/3

take a look at pages 3-7

The i3 beats the A10 6800K (which is like 5% faster than the Athlon) in pretty much every test.

The only time that changes is if the A10 is overclocked to 4.7 which would require a more expensive board and a $30 cooler. Which would make it more expensive than i3 and still have no upgrade path.
