1 will *probably* do. If we are to judge by 780... But nothing is yet conclusive about the 880 (if there even will be a card called that way) as of now.

Why dont you wait and see what kind of performance gains it will have first before trying to figure out how many you need?

what is your current gpu?? if its a gtx600 series or a gtx700 series then there is no need to upgrade for the next 5-6 years

The problem is though I probably won't even be able to afford one card at launch too many damn bills atm

We don't  know the performance of future GPUs, but if Nvidia didn't lie, it'd be better than a 780ti. If that's the case, only 1 GTX 880 will be more than enough.

If you don't think one is in your financial reach, then you probably dont need to worry about two, three, four, etc...
