My CPU is hitting 31 degrees Celsius at idle, it's a i7 4770k and has a Corsair H80i, is this normal or should I try and re-apply, if so what kind of thermal paste?

You should change Thermal Paste Once a month or Once in 2 months

Is that hotter than you normally see?

Thermal Paste theoretically, never needs to be changed. (I've read TONS of posts just like this, with that always being the answer)

As long as you don't see your temps spike compaired to what they were, you're fine.

The only real answer is, is that number abnormal? And if it's abnormal, is it abnormally hot in your room?

what if they spike like going from 35c to 40c then back down to 35c in about two sec and floating inbetwin that but never goes over 55c

uh, don't think so m8

OP you're fine.. leave it alone.

>.> mine spike every once a month.. from just 45 to suddenly 60. when i change paste it turns back to 45... then one more month it spikes back up :\

then your paste is crap or you're doing something wrong.

Only started to notice it because games have started to lag more so then usual with frame drops and my room is abnormally hot. Maybe because it's summer and I live in a hot environment.

your idle temps are fine, but I guess you're on stock cooler, so that might cause it to get pretty warm under load. I'd most likely attribute it to that, and the fact that it is indeed summer.

Even idling, your computer will do things in the background, that might cause something like this to happen.

Room temperature is 23.8889 Celsius.

At 24 C ambient temp, you're CPU at 31, isn't bad at all.

You either need better paste, or better application.

Ah, I've been wondering if i fucked up, since the temp are never stay the same. they always jump three to six C alot but i've never had a intel cpu before so i don't know if that's normal for it to spike like that

Anti-Virus running scans, things updating, or whatever else, can cause mild spikes like this in the background.

I wouldn't be worried about this.

Ive been given stock ones from my aftermarket CM Hyper 103(212 was out of stock back then), and i always apply it like a blob in the middle. Jus' like linus sed

The stock ones can be terrible, and the size of your blob, can really make a difference (if you don't apply enough, or too much).

Too much thermal compound, can cause the heat to not transfer all the way from chip, to heatsink, but rather have issues because there's too much material inbetween.

Too little thermal compound, can cause the entire chip to not be covered, so it won't all make contact with the heatsink.
