Is it going to be like a 10% difference  from last generation like it was with the 7970 and 290X or is it going to be like the huge performance change from the 580 to 680 when it changed die size from 40nm to 28nm?

No one knows...

Well... What do you think? It will use the same die size as the GK110. 28nm.

I said this in another thread so I might as well say it here...

No one knows anything about the 800 series. It could be amazing and run a 16K display at 500 fps or it could be terrible and kill your new kitten. No one knows and no one will know until it is out, which also has not yet been announced. WCCFtech does not count!

Apparantly going to be decent jump in performance but time will tell, lets wait for the big Maxwell's to be released.

Aren't the new Maxwell cards 22nm?

It was either 20nm or 28nm. NVIDIA chose 28nm. Source from /r/PCMasterRace. Next year the process will probably be 20nm with their speculated GK210 chip or something like that.

Hopefully they make their higher end cards based on the same architecture as the 750/Ti because then we'd have much cooler running and much more power efficient high-end cards. All I'm praying for is that it's not going to be rebrand season again.

Nvidia claims it will be %30, but not sure I believe that. If I was to guess I would say %15 improvement with less power consumption and cooler operation.

Well they did re brand the 770 and 760 ...

They will rebrand everything except the top tier card, they do every time.

It is the same architecture as the 750 Ti and is the same die size of 28nm which would probably make sense to your estimate.

the 7970 and 290x are over 10% apart xD remember the 680(which was on par with 7970 Ghz edition) and titan are about 25% and the 290X surpasses it by a decent margin... and Die size is not 40 and 28 nm that's fabrication size... it's the size of the components in the chip, Die size is the size of the chip itself overall... Best guess is about 0% improvement from 780Ti -> 880 and maybe 5% from the normal 780... simply for the reasoning is the GK110 has a die size of just over 500mm^2 and the predicted chipset is to have a die size in the 400mm range plus Maxwell is not anymore powerful from what I can tell the 750Ti spec wise is very similar to say the 480 and less powerful leading me to believe the architecture is sacrificing power for efficiency... And my next reasons Binning, binning is the difference from Titan->780->780Ti->Titan Black they all use GK110 (660-680 and 760-770 all<with few exceptions> use GK107 BTW) performance does not show them as identical however they are binned better and better however causing them to be stronger and stronger and a whole new chip is hard to bin when you add in it's architecture difference it's gonna be even hard... finally they now have Name to uphold TITAN they're likely gonna hold down the 880 (Like the 680 remember it was cheaper than the 580 480 and 780s MSRP at release much like the 880 is believed to be) they're likely planning a new titan based on maxwell

Inshort No I honestly think it's so overhyped when in all reality performance is gonna improved marginally if at all efficiency will be much greater however

the only Maxwell card released so far the 750ti does not have impressive performance at all relative to die size. It only has impressive power consumption. Hopefully nvidia has further architectural tweaks up it's sleeve in the upcoming Maxwell cards, I'm guessing they do or else they will not be able to keep up with AMD in 2015.

I'm gonna be relaxed... for now the 750Ti (GM107) is nothing but a low end sample card to me that can't tell me too much other than better power efficieny. The performance doesn't surprise me either good or bad... it's just low end stuff.

Since there aren't too many info on the follwing Maxwell chips, I won't be helpful discussing this to the end of days... but I have to admit that I'm curious to see them be released, that I know if it's worth an upgrade or wait until (PC GamesHardware source) mid/late 2015 to see the highend chip with 16nm... which will probably be named 900 series, and be the real power upgrade. Other than than I'll stick to my GTX780 Ti (SLI) and my R9 290X.
