CMOS reset, broke Windows?

Go to solution Solved by c3p0,

First thing that comes to mind would be the sata controller has reset itself to ide from ahci in uefi. So check that in bios.

Otherwise could be corrupted bootinstructions. Could you view /boot/grub/grub.cfg from ubuntu and check if an entry like

menuentry ‘Windows 7′ {
set root=’(hd0,msdos2)’
chainloader +1
}

is still present?

I'm an idiot and my impatience kind of cost me here. There was this tiny thing where when I plug in my laptop to an ac adapter it automatically started up. I found out that it is a bios setting, however I forgot the password. Well, I took out the cmos battery in the laptop to reset it. I thought it worked because it said it needed to be setup after I turned it on. Well, the password was still there so apparently the password didn't get removed. Well, I also found out that since the bios time/date and whatnot changed, Windows and Ubuntu won't start. Well, I found the password eventually and fixed the date and time. Ubuntu fixed itself. Windows however is still broken. It gets halfway through the gui boot logo and then BSOD's for about half a second and then the computer reboots. I don't want to have to go to an old system restore from an earlier time on another windows update because 1. I might loose stuff and 2. it might not fix the problem. Is there any other way to fix this or is my windows installation screwed?

Edit: going back to a previous time didn't fix the problem. Windows can't seem to fix it by itself.

Bye LTT. That was an interesting journey on this board. At least here you see how not to do it. I'll go shaking my head about this place.

The SATA controller is set on IRRT.

Here is what is put if you edit windows section of grub. and the one you had said to go to. probably the same thing.
