Hello all.

I'm currently running the old Phenom II X6 1075T @ ~3.675 Ghz on all 6 cores "overclocked" . When Intel introduced its G3258-K, I tought may be it's worth "upgrading", since Intel is overclockable, and gives more single core performace. Main reason is the TDP of phenom and power consumption. And i know, overclocked intel wont be much different in power consumption, right?

So what are your toughts about this? Do or don't?

And yes, my phenom wont go any higher than 3.75Ghz even @ 1.45 volts watercooled, so ditched the idea of overclocking it more.

@ AdamIsaacLang - no no no no, no more AMD for me. And its a bad board - Asrock 970 extr3 rev1. Cant wait to get rid of it.

@ s3ns3 - maybe buy Intel 3258 + Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3 and later save up for some i5, dont really know wich one tho.

Won't make sense.

Just go straight to i5 if that's what you're going to do down the line.

I'll have your 1075t if you don't like AMD :(

I'll also take the 1075 off your hands. it's still a pretty solid chip.

Why do you always die right after I fix you?

I would grab a 6300 instead considering you already have the motherboard.

A 6300 at 3.5GHz is beaten by a 1090t at 3.2Ghz, not much of an upgrade, it is better to get a 8350 or save up for an i5

My PC specs; Processor: Intel i5 2500K @4.6GHz, Graphics card: Sapphire AMD R9 Nano 4GB DD Overclocked @1050MHz Core and 550 MHz Memory. Hard Drives: 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM, 2TB Western Digital Green Drive, Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V , Power Supply: OCZ ZS series 750W 80+ Bronze certified, Case: NZXT S340, Memory: Corsair Vengance series Ram, Dual Channel kit @ 1866 Mhz, 10-11-10-30 Timings, 4x4 GB DIMMs. Cooler: CoolerMaster Seidon 240V

I know that it's kinda good chip still. IMO Phenom II's are the last good one AMD made tbh. Then back to the saving. Will run this thing till it burns out, maybe with better board would get better overclocks, but aint spending money on this thing while it still works.

Your thinking of a 6200 which is Bulldozer the 6300 is Piledriver which is much better.

Unfortunately neither really quite beat K10 :(

stick with it or upgrade to haswell i5, AMD has nothing that is a worthy upgrade to that chip OP even the 8350 you'd won't notice any difference, per core performance of the ol' phenom is better than piledriver.

Get a cheap H97 board with an i5-4460 or 4590 if you're on a tight budget, if budget is not an issue get a good Z97 board with the 4690K. Those are all worthy upgrade to the phenom X6

Thanks for reply's.

Going to save up some more + sell 1075T + asrock 970 extr3 (hoping to get somewhere near 100 euros for combo) and buy a i5-4460 + Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H for 200 euros (combo).

Stick with it until you can afford a brand new rig (m/board / cpu / mem)

all your current rig specs are now slightly aging if you want modern gaming, so worth waiting to you can do a scratch new build.

there are also many other ways to improve performance with what you have for a small budget (go crossfire) find a new or used card the same on the net and double up. add better cooling, faster transfer drives. should be able to get another year out of a $100 - 150 upgrade.

got to love Asus components

3258? No, not in my opinion. Win for ST and price (I guess?) but everything else is w/e.

Worth upgrading to another AMD CPU? Unlikely.

i3-4150 if you want something less expensive

i5-4590 if you want superb quadcore performance for under $200

i7-4790k if you have money to blow and the above still isn't enough

Got a lot of moolah or want the best for what its worth? i7-5820k. when it comes out, will be worth about as much as a 4790k/4770k but much better. Sadly, the 3820 and 4820k aren't going down in price and probably won't because of how close they'll likely be to Haswell-E.. Mobo will still cost ~$200+ I'm betting, however.

Just my two cents on upgrading your CPU/chipset. And if you're worried about TDP, most graphics cards won't be friendly towards you. Just keep your pc off when you're not using it..

Whoa, I didn't know the 1100T at 3.5ghz beats the FX6300 at the same clockspeed.  I have the FX8350 and an X6 1100T, I like 'em both! They haven't let me down in any of the games I've tried with them. ;)

Yea I'm a K10 fanboy :P

From pretty much all tests I've done a K10 will run circles around an FX CPU at the same clock speed / "core" count (or often more).

1100T was AMDs last great CPU for me :( (Apart from maybe the X4 965 BE which was also their golden quad for gamers).

I know when i built my brothers 8320 set i put my 1055t 125 watt cpu in to take it for a spin clocked it @3.5  then put in  his 8320  his was   faster at video stuff but at gaming

my 1055t only few frames lower if i rember right at bf3 all ultra he was onlt 5-10 fps ahead  my 1055t did not dip below 55fps  in his system .then i  oc his sysetm to 4.2 on stock volts game over for me his system woke up   :(

Saving up for same mother board and ram as him  .i know i can get 4.0 with my  cpu in the same system as him  i can get 3.8 in my POS system  stable ..I think there is lots of life left in mine  to hold me of for a year or so  then i will will see what AMD or Intel has to offer for me

Yeah it does really well, I've had 3.9ghz on all 6 cores stable but I'm sure with a bit more tweaking I could make 4.0ghz
